Black roasted barley and a slight hoppiness combine to give this Irish Stout its distinctive velvety texture and sensational creamy taste. Welcome to the dark side.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt is more intense then I was expecting. Taste is quite dry with some roasted malt and dry coffee notes – somewhat more intense then I had expected. Body is about average with good carbonation. Well brewed though maybe a tad too dry for my taste.

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2006 Sampled at Mondial 2006. The body was black with a light tan colored head. The aroma was classic with coffee and chocolate. There was also some sweet pancakes. The taste was a lot of coffee with a hint of dark chocolate and a hint of bread crust. Definitely English type hops (Fuggles?) character. Very dry with lots of roasted cofee. Good stuff.

Bottle. Dark brown with a fair brown head. Not quite right metallic chocolate pudding and dark cocoa scent. Flavour is aluminum foil and cocoa, my teeth hurt.

Strong roasted barley in the nose with underlying cereal malt sweetness. Opaque black body is topped by a low, fine bubbled, brown head that recedes to a thin, partial cover and ring. Licorice notes to the strong roasty flavour with some very dark chocolatey bitterness that lasts on the tongue. Very dry medium body with lively carbonation that prickles the tongue. Snifter. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle (Peluso, Jan-05).

500 ml bottle from Metro Joanette in Verdun, Quebec (May 2006), served between fridge and cellar temperature in a Unibroue glass. The pour is utterly opaque and solid black with a large-bubbled diminishing brown head and plenty of thick lacing....nose shows first a grapy-sweet/sour quality, with dark roast quickly appearing, milk chocolate and prunes, a touch of fragrant woody/herbal hoppiness.....on the tongue, a nice roast though the body is a bit light, cold coffee and a hint of dark cocoa....at the finish, an unpleasant cardboardiness fades when more warmth arrives, but it remains a bit stale and dull at the end....still, not a half-bad attempt.

Bottle - 500ml. Opaque black body topped with an average frothy head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with grainy, coffeeish and chocolate hints. Its well balanced taste shows more robustness and sharpness than the aroma. It leaves a long bitter/roasty aftertaste. Very good example of a Dry Stout.

500 ml bottle from Depanneur Peluso, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a fair mocha head. Aroma: Some nice sweet malts, fruity, caramel, molasses, milk chocolate, lighter coffee, dark chocolate, nice. Palate: Medium-ish body, moderate effervescence. Flav.: Not at all like the nose, borderline infected, organic acids, nasty; dry with mainly acids and an unpleasant bitterness.

The nose had so much potential. The flavour was seriously lacking. Drain pour.
