We’ve been brewing Lion Lager in Sri Lanka since 1881. Lion Lager is made from the very best ingredients - it’s malty, refreshing, and natural tasting. This is a beer of character for people of character.

ABV ranges from 4.1% to 4.8%

Bottle. Gift from a friend and my first Sri Lankan beer! :-) Let’s see if this one is half as good as the legendary Lion Stout from the same brewery. Pours a clear golden body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Nose is pale malts, DMS in the form of vegetable broth) and some faint floral hints. Taste is grainy pale malts, hints of grass and boiled vegetables. Light body and medium carbonation. Good for a South Asian beer, mediocre as an international lager, and half-bad as far as the brewery’s standards go, after what I can see.

grassy smell at first..malty later...taste is standard but has a slight pepper spice on the back end...kinda nice...that is the main taste though...the rest is light beer taste with some malt...burp tasted like motor oil...that was weird lol...only seem to get the pepperiness when you drink fast...maltiness at slow pace...weird...

Bottle. 4.8% ABV. Gold body. Medium white head that gradually dissipates. Pretty. Nose is lager malts, beef tea, hops, spice, red fruit, toast. Definite irony note. Crystal clear spring water. Clean bittersweet taste. Crisp, dry finish. Very refreshing.

(Bottled) A 625 ML BOTTLE ,in my Lion Tulip and that didn’t help me like this and I wanted to , as I love Lion stout - how these two beers come out of the same brewery is amazing ...like a mother having a beautiful daughter and ugly son . Its not a bad beer , no , Im sure it would go down well in tropical heat with complex curries ,but im biased , man . Nothing much to the flavour -sweet malt and lacing bitterness to make this refreshing enough for me to give a shit .

330ml bottle at home. Whilst Lion Stout is one of the best beers in the world, it appears the same brewery make on of the worst! Pours clear amber yellow with no head. Lemon and minerals on the nose, and grainy. Taste has an unpleasant metallic bitterness, and light sweetness. Not good.

Bottle in Tesco. Malty, some biscuit, a small hint of citrus and a little hop to balance. Decent lager.

Bottle @ Home, totally underwhelming. I could have drunk this beer a thousand times and never known it. Nothing wrong with it, nothing unpleasant just nothing that would make me drink it again. To sum it up a yellow watery liquid with no big flavours to drag me back, would not bother to have again.

330 ml bottle bought at AJ’s Sri Lankan Cuisine in Sai Kung.

Clear golden orange colour; One-quarter finger head and white foam which last for about 30 seconds; Slight sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Pungent sweet smell of malt, sugar syrup, grains, light citrus and strong straw; Very light sweet taste of strong bready malt, with strong grains, hint of syrup, lemon, strong lime and very strawy grass; Medium body, slick palate; Mouth feel is a fairly low sweet base, very malty premium lager with a very coarsely and bit of ‘raw’ feel. Thankfully, the sugar element is just a touch on the tongue and overall the beer is very lightly sweet. Kinda okay; The raw edge comes from the very grassy and strawy hops, where bitterness is moderate at best but the greasy taste is frankly quite overwhelming right from the start, with a rough and unfulfilled bitter finish; Quite dry after taste, raw and strawy to mouth.

Comments: There’s nothing Pale about this one, it’s definitely a Premium Lager in looks, smell, body and taste. Whereas Nepal’s Mustang is a tad sweeter, this one is too much straw in hop taste but not enough bitterness to balance it. Could have been a decent one but for now it’s a premium lager diamond in the rough, perhaps too tough.
