We’ve been brewing Lion Lager in Sri Lanka since 1881. Lion Lager is made from the very best ingredients - it’s malty, refreshing, and natural tasting. This is a beer of character for people of character.

ABV ranges from 4.1% to 4.8%

Bottle from an Indian grocer in Wembley. Expectations were low. Surprisingly deep golden colour, this was a relatively malty tropical lager, had some (if not enough) hop. Went quite well with my curry. It’s a dull lager but this sample avoided any nasties and was refreshing enough.

Bottle from Tesco. Disappointing. Nice mouthfeel, but thin on flavour - the cereal honey straw hop notes fade away to uncertainty almost immediately. How can Lion produce a world beating Stout, yet a below average Lager?

Crisp lager nose, pale yellow body and big lick of a white head. Decent enough carbonation helps carry a generous and dry amount of barley and crispbread across, but this just drys out to a manky malt and unremarkable finish.

From a bottle on the porch of the Galle Face hotel in Sri Lanka. Good clear golden lager. Light grassy aroma. Slightly complex sour corn and floral notes.A perfect accompaniment to super hot curry.

Golden coloured and clear. Has a white head, medium duration. Has notes of butter in it, light bread. Moderate sweet flavor. Moderate bitter finish.

Can off the coast of Mexico on 21st March 2014 (on MS Balmoral, a Fred Olsen cruise liner). One of many strange cans available at a ’beer festival’ on board the ship. Typical lager/pilsner: golden, clear and clean looking. Bright body with a white fading crown on top. Usual almost odourless lager aroma, some grains and hops maybe but it still gets a low score for the smell. Taste wise it didn’t do much, more malts than hops, refreshing but bordering on tasteless, certainly bland and lacking in flavour in my eyes.

625ml bottle from beers of Europe. Clear golden colour, with a thin white head. Aroma is grainy, some sweet corn malts. Flavour is the same.

maekchu (2093) - Hirakata, JAPAN - APR 17, 2014
Bottle from Yamaya. Flat, stale nose of washed-out grain and wet paper. Dark gold straw, very pretty, decent lace. Thin grainy initial / stale malt / light dusting of powdered sugar. Thin body. Not so pleasant. Disappointing, considering the quality of the stout they make at the same place.

Im not sure if its corn or rice, but I know its shiite! I can’t believe Lion Stout comes from the same brewery

Can. Golden color with big but fast-disappearing head. In a minute there is no head at all. Malty aroma. Small amount of hops in taste. Typical south beer.
