2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 porterhouse (1479) - Alna, Maine, USA - MAY 15, 2006
(625 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/ target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co.) Pours light golden yellow with a large rocky white head. When held to light a few little particles can be seen swimming around. Aroma is some honey sweetness and bread. While drinking was also picking up a petroleum-like odor once in a while as well as a rotten, foul note. The ojectionable odors were not detected in the flavor however. Some foamy rings of lace. Mouthfeel quite dry. Tastes of some honey sweetness, a little bready in finish. Not really too bad flavor-wise, but this felt too dry. Certainly not on par with their exceptional Stout.
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 beerlady (543) - lucerne, SWITZERLAND - MAY 9, 2006
thin,white head
yellow-golden color
smells malty-sweet( in a way that remembers a bit malt-liquors) and a bit hoppy, alcohol smell seems stronger than the content is(4.8% by vol.) a little bit metallic and some artificial smelling fruit(by longer smelling remembering some sweet, low budget, sweet sparkling wine)
tastes hoppier than it smells, and less sweet than it smells too, carbonation remembering mineral-water,
in the aftertaste something artificially-fruity,(dried raisins, but in a funny way),alcohol and a bitter hops.the fruity aftertaste that comes first doesn’t fit wery well with the hops
not bad, tasts better, than thinking after first smell, perhaps to try with some ceylonese dishes(from sri lanka),where the beer comes from, but not a beer to drink for discuss with friends about the taste of it.
by the way,the bottle i bought in switzerland, has the same label, that the one on the picture on this side, but behind, there isonly the alcohol degree, the content(33o ml9,the adress of the trader, that imports it,but no ingredients!!!
(and in switzerland, normally, that must figure on each edible or drinkable item!!)
(bought in a ceylonese food shop)

The pour was a crystal clear golden with a moderate white head. There is a light aroma of malty sweetness. The flavor is light with some bitterness but overall the beer is unremarkable.

Sample at the Union. Not too bad but definitely a lager and so not my style. I would rather drink the High Life really. Skunked is the first word in my head and the only one that stuck.
