2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 JFGrind (1595) - Glenside, USA - MAY 22, 2006
My friend hosts an annual "white trash picnic" and I like to bring an appropriate beer to the BBQ. In the past its been PBR tall boys but this year Lionshead caught my eye at the beer distributor. Cases of Lionshead and Lionshead Light 12 NR bottles were going for $10.64 a case. I picked up one of each for the party. Lionshead Light gave off a cabbage aroma, a bubbly brew with a light yellow body, and a thin head. Bland flavor the type BMC light beer drinkers love. Lionshead Light was a hit with the ladies and the Miller Lite drinkers at the party. Puzzles under the bottle caps were an added bonus and promoted group discussion. Lion Brewery has not re-invented light beer, but brewed a passable 120 calorie beer for under $11 a case. Your non-beer geek friends will drink it.
2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Onenote81 (902) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 26, 2012
Originally reviewed: 1/23/12. A friend of mine gave me a 6-pack of this the other day. Poured the final bottle into a pint glass for review. Pours a pale, translucent gold with fine lace on top. No head or lace left behind on the glass. Nose is of cheap grains and freshly-cut honeycrisp apples. The mouth is crisp and thin. Very light, not surprisingly. Very sweet beer. Light apple juice, mild corn, sweet finish. This drinks like flavored water, and it is refreshing. I’ll give it that. Decent enough to wash down some wings or something, but nothing I’d stock the fridge with on a regular basis.
My favorite part of this beer was the pictorial riddles under each cap. Nice little touch to an otherwise boring beer.

Cheap college beer. The flavor is about as close to water as you can get nut I assume if you are buying this you’re not expecting much

From a bottle poured a golden color with a fair amount of head. Light malty flavor with a quick finish.

Light, Skunky. It’s what I expected. A throwback to old college days and bad beer. Ahh memories.

I suppose I’ve been overdue to rate a pale lager, so here we go. Serving: 12 oz. can from Jesse at Fireworks. It has your typical macro light appearance. The nose is rather non-descript, an attribute that I don’t mind in this case. The taste is clean with a bit of grain but not much else. Very clean finish. It’s easy drinking and unoffensive, though it does lack flavor.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Frank (2064) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 9, 2011
This beer is from Pennsylvania but it is a dead ringer for a Polish pale lager. It’s grainy and lightly skunky despite being brown bottled. It’s clear straw yellow w/ a long lasting white head. Definitely light in texture w/ fizzy carbonation but I’d say this is much closer to being an actual Pilsener than most American lagers.

Pale watery corn swill lacking any kind of depth. Aroma shows...well...not much of anything. Slightly sweet corn notes do little to appease even the most undemanding beer drinker.

Pale yellow, head dissipates quickly. The aroma is a skunky, yeasty maltiness. My sample is from a can and that may be imparting some off aromas. The skunkiness dissipates after a few minutes. The beer is light bodied and crisp. It has a light sweetness to it and there is no aftertaste. Better than the macrobrews, but not by much.

bottle - Pours clear yellow with a one finger white head. It smells of grainy malt. It tastes of grainy, adjunct laden malt with a foul aftertaste. It’s weak and watery, another cheaply made, low quality beer. What’s the point?

Bottle [12oz] shared with garthicus -- c/o of HogTownHarry. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with a spare diminishing frothy white head. Aroma of corn and grain, of course, but also with some sweetness, a hint of fruit and some light hops -- could be worse. Flavour’s mild, watery and light but thankfully clean, with grain, pale malt and very light hops. Light bitter finish. Light bodied. I thought this would be much worse, I mean it’s not very good but for a Light lawnmower beer, you could do worse.
