Sampler @ brewpub. Pours with a thick murky head that just wont go away, khaki colored. Aroma is roast and a hint of sweet prune. Taste has just the right amount of sweet prune mixed with light roast and coffee. Very easy drinking with a lightly ashy aftertaste.

Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Hays, Kansas. Cloudy, dark brown pour with a thick tan head, a sweet milky coffee nose, flavor is maple, brown sugar, coffee, bitter chocolate, and scotch. Incredible.

BlackDonald (1127) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JUL 30, 2008
This is a pretty solid stout. Roasted coffee nose, with some hints of caramel and chocolate, even a light hint of dark fruits. Smooth on the palate, with some notes of burnt cocoa here and there, some light hop bitterness plays through in the finish. Nice.

My favorite of the lot of 8. Great roasty toasty aroma, bits of dark cocoa and burnt business. Color is a darker brown, see through on the edges. Dark malt, toasted malt, and burnt chocolate make up the flavor, all while somehow keeping a nice sweet malt profile as well. Oats are definitely present through and LINGER through the finish. Well done.

Poured black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and some chocolate. Taste was roasted coffee and a little hops in the finish. Very smooth from the oats I assume.

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2008 Old rating On tap at brewpub, probably in March ’06. Dark brown, nearly black color. Roasted barley and oatmeal aroma, some 70% chocolate. Roasty, somewhat sweet taste. Nice, thick & chewy, mouthfeel. Some bitterness at the end and a touch of earthy hops flavor. Roasty lingering finish.

This rating is from March ’08. On tap as well, didn’t remember I had rated it. Roasty nose, light caramel & coffee. Nice mouthfeel, very oily. Roast, chocolate, coffee, and light earthy notes.
The palate was scored as a 4 on this rating (was originally scored a 3), so I will let my new score reflect that.

On tap at the Parkville Microbrew Festival. Pours black with a dark beige head. Has a nice mild coffee-roasted aroma. Some great rich chocolate is in there as well. This is a FANTASTIC flavored stout- very milky with a big hopped-up finish. I’m loving all the beers from this new brewer! A stout this good is worth traveling to the middle of nowhere.

Dark hazy brown color. Sweet caramel-molasses nose, with layers of freshly baked chocolate cake and coconut (german chocolate cake?). Flavor is mainly caramel-molasses, and a touch sugary/syrupy with a near cloying finish.

On tap at Gella’s, Hays KS: Very dead pour without the slightest hint of a head; fairly roasty and astringent, some notible hoppiness; fairly dead palate. Not very impressive.

jhumphries69 (1034) - Tyrone, Georgia, USA - NOV 13, 2006
UPDATED: NOV 14, 2006 Pours very dark brown (nearly opaque brown - which is unsual since most opaque stouts look more black than brown...) with a tan head. The aroma is similar to the english porter: burnt toast, bitter cocoa. The roasted flavors may be a little stronger - perhaps hints of cold/weak coffee. The hops are detectable. The mouthfeel is quite nice (no doubt thanks to the oatmeal). Possibly one of the best efforts at this institution.
