Pours a dark brown with a ring of beige foam. Aroma has a nice brown sugar, apple and musty bourbon. In the taste, unfortunately all I can get is the apple and it’s very distracting. I wish I could have gotten past that.

Acquired in a trade with phaleslu, thanks Peter! It poured a dark brown color with a small off-white head. The aroma was of chocolate from the beginning with mild bourbon, vanilla and barrel notes throughout. There was also some mild spiciness that came through with a hint of dark fruit. The taste was of roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and some boozy alcohol. Very well done.

Huge aroma of bourbon coming off this thing! And that’s all I can detect. Lots of bourbon follows on the tongue--along with very sweet malt notes. Overall, one of the best beers I have tried from ANY Cincinnati brewer. Listermann really went for it on this one and I approve. *12oz bottle, 2012

pours black with ruby hues...very thin mocha head. aroma has fig and dark chocolate beneath bourbon notes and vanilla...touch of brown sugar. flavor has nice brown sugar, a hint of dark chocolate, raisin and fig, and nice bourbon with a touch of oak. mouthfeel is medium and the finish is brown sugar/bourbon and roasty dry.

A - Dark black-brown with a thin layer of frothy brownish head. Fades fairly quickly. S - Roasted chocolate malts, vanilla, oak, Bourbon, molasses, dark fruit, coffee, some booze. T - Sweet chocolate malts, vanilla, Bourbon, oak, roasted coffee, dark fruits, molasses, black licorice, and some booze. M - Full bodied with mild carbonation. Smooth and a bit chewy with a warming and sweet finish. D - Nice overall balance. Could have used a bit more carbonation.

Bottle from BA Brew33. Thanks! Deep black coffee pour with off-white head. Nose is somewhat tarry roast malt with licorice and the faintest bourbon/vanilla. Practically no barrel qualities. Flavor is an acidic roast malt with more licorice and coffee. Very little oak/bourbon. A bit acidic for me. Nice full palate. Not my thing.

The craft motto is to drink local right? Well as a native Cincinnati guy this is a obvious beer to try and I like it. The appearance is a very deep brown nearly black with a head similar to the foam you would see on a cup of espresso which quickly dissipates. It has a nose of fig, bourbon, plums and leather. When sipping I taste some sweetness, some bourbon, dark fruits, oak, lots of coffee and an extra espresso finish. There is a hint of alcohol but not as a turn off just a little flame as it goes down. I would recommend this beer if you like the barrel aged stouts and you were in the region looking for a local brew. Cheers!

I like the slight sourness at the end, kind of a treat. To me this indicates that this guy will age well, mellow but also with a little possibility of getting wild. My bottle was not waxed, purchased at Dorothy Lane Market. Initially sweet, vanilla, buttery, hot, not a lot of head and it doesn’t linger long. Tasty. Then the warming period lets the hotness expand, too much actually, but you get a little coffee-groundsish acidity. I like it. Fits the bill.

12oz, red waxed bottle, 2012 edition courtesy of alexsdad. thanks, brad! pours a deep, dark mocha that sits black in the glass capped by a razor thin, khaki head that leaves just a sliver of lace. aroma is great with big notes of vanilla nougat, coconut cream, angel’s food cake, and banana cream pie backed by mild chocolate, roast, and light bourbon. flavor is pretty tasty as well, maybe a bit muddled, with a melange of vanilla icing, chocolate covered bananas, yoohoo, charred barrel, and dark fruits with hints of bourbon, toffee, and roast on the back end. palate is medium bodied with smooth carbonation and a dry, roasted yet sweet finish with a touch of heat. overall, a decent barrel aged imperial stout.
