2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Medium nut brown color with little to no head, some lacing. Some smokiness, but it is fleet and covered up by sweetness. As someone who has worked with smoked meats for over a year something seems off, more of a liquid smoke character than actual smoke . The alcohol is also prevalent in the aroma. Taste is sweet, roasted malts with a sticky residue. Its OK, a novice introduction to smoked beers as it lacks the punch of a rauch-style beer..

Come on - bacon flavored beer. This is nature’s most perfect food - and proof that God loves us. This is NOT a novelty beer- it is very good technically and tastefully. Makes me proud to be an American!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample at The Ohio Taproom. Dark brownish-amber color with a medium foamy light beige head that dissipates gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked meat, malt and coffee. Medium-bodied with flavors of smoked bacon, charred malt and mild coffee. The finish is smoky with a burnt malt aftertaste. A little too far into barbecued meat territory for me, so pretty average in my opinion.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample at the Listermann tasting room on 9/13/13. Clear brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of crystal malts and ham. Malty and caramelly flavor along with notes of maple and ham before a semi-sweet finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft sample at StarkBier Fest at Listermann Brewing Company on March 23, 2013. Dark coffee-like hue, strong smoky aroma with some sweet malty notes, STRONG smoky flavor with a bit of malt as well. The big smoky taste is very well done--stops short of being overbearing. Not exactly sessionable but a beer I wouldn’t mind having every once in a while.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted at Alefest 2013. I love the Listerman's beer. This one was the perfect combination of coffee and smoke. This was a sipping beer that would be great on a fall day. I didn't taste the bacon that others claimed.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The aroma of this beer was of bacon and roasted coffee. It tasted like a good rauch beer and reminded me a lot of that style.

11/08/2010: Listermann Friar Bacon Smoked Bock Beer... Aroma: Weak fruity smoke and applesauce. Appearance: Cloudy, tarnished gold to dull orange in color; thin, off-white crown. Flavor: Smoked apple cider with a watery apple juice and strange chemical aftertaste. Palate: Medium-light, thin; very, very low carbonation. Overall: YUCK!
