grass, herbs, citrus, bread, golden, clear, minimal head, white foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour, light body, thin feel, average carbonation, astringent, bitter, long finish
Dark golden pour with fast rising white head. Foam falls quickly releasing aromas of green grass, herbal and citrus mixed with a bit of doughy bread. Taste is medium bitterness with slight sourness, and a bit of malt sweetness remaining in the background. Medium carbonation with a thin, watery, but clean mouthfeel. Crisp astringency and persisting light bitterness at the end.

See through yellow pilsner with a big white head and a luring farty pilsner aroma. Sweet and quite buttery flavor with mild bitterness from the hops. Pretty straight forward pilsner. Balanced and good. A nice and refreshing drink for the times you don’t want anything too adventurous.

Okay, before anything else; I am not entirely certain that I am rating the right beer. The Litovel in front of me Does not have the words ’Lager Hell’ on it anywhere, instead it has something like ’Premium Pivo Svelty Lezak’. Everything else looks pretty much the same, so lets roll with it. Poured into my trusty Duvel Tulip. It looks like a lager, which is to say indistinguishable from a certain bodily function, though it does have a deeper golden colour to it. Head is half a finger of fizzy white quickly dissipating to a light lacing. Scent is faint, somewhat sweet with the familiar slightly skunky smell of Czech hops. Taste is mild, sweet, slightly bready as Lagers usually are but has a nicer balance with the hops than any of the common lagers on this side of the world have. Carbonation is nice for the style, mouthfeel is actually fairly rich for a pilsener. Overall, it is an easy-drinking beer that would be quite refreshing on a very hot day, but compared to my usual fare it might as well be water.

Labelled Litovel Světlý Ležák Premium. Pours lively and is picture perfect in the glass. Mammoth, dense, rocky white crown atop an orange amber body that is sparkling and awash with fine carbonation. Head is resilient, adding a creaminess to the mouthfeel, and leaves a thick lace upon the glass. Toasted, clean malt and peppery, earthy noble hops dominate the nose with an odd edge of candied lemon. Light bodied, creamy in feel and low in carbonation. Good backbone of grainy, toasted and cereal-like malts matched well by bitter, herbal and earthy hops that linger between each sip. Nicely balanced, clean and easy to drink. It’s been awhile since my last Czech Pilsner so maybe I have a soft spot for this one. Generously flavoured, clean, well made. (50cL, BB 21/06/13, Cellarbrations Kinross)
