Dread is a much loved beer amongst our awesome community of Hopheads and also within the brewery. Every time the temperature would dip, we would indulge in a little Dread-related nostalgia. Eventually enough was enough and with the release of our first ever Seasonal, we thought it was time for the Return of the Dread. So enough reminiscing... what does it taste like? Well, it’s a formidable but smooth stout. Good balance of flavours through the dark malts and the Fuggles hops, which is what we’re all about in our beers - balance and harmony. If you get your snout in the glass and have a good sniff you’ll notice some chocolate, vanilla and liquorice in the aroma. A sip will reveal a decent dose of bitterness, a long finish and velvety mouthfeel.

Formally a single batch release under the guise of The Dreadnought (7.4% ABV).

I very rich and sticky textured stout. Full of flavour with its alco well hidden in the taste.

Bottle thanks to Aaron! Pours deep black, small tan head, decent lacing. Aroma is dry and roasty, hints of lactose, anise and cocoa. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, quite roasty but not acidic. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Quite tasty.

A conservative stout in its balance of flavours and all of them are good. Smooth, soft and satisfying in flavour and feel, easy to drink.

330ml bottle into tumbler. Milk chocolate aroma. This beer is totally opaque, no light can escape. Good solid tan head. Full bodied, flat mouthfeel. Liquorice is instantly noticeable then a long long finish of dark chocolate, cocoa and a touch of fruity hoppy bitterness. Just a hint of warming alcohol is present. Great beer.

A beautiful beer that entices with it’s tan, lacey head before spilling around the mouth with coffee and smokey tastes. Not too much CO2 to detract from the oily smoothness. Goes superbly with mature cheddar.

(Bottle) Very dark with small tan head. Nice aroma - coffee and chocolate with liquorice and spice hints. Fantastic palate - full bodied, but not sticky, with smooth and bright carbonation. Great taste - rich and smooth, dark malts but little sweetness, nice hop bitterness for balance, some toasty notes. Excellent beer - too hard to put down, which could be dangerous for 7.4%

Bottle- pours black with a rocky mocha head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate and burnt sugar. Taste is coffe and chocolate up from, then a dry bitter lingering finish. Creamy palate with a nice mouthfeel.

Tap - Solid effort - plenty of earthy hops - full bodied roast malt with the aforementioned vanilla and licorice notes but no chocolate - seems in the flavour mould of Guiness but stratospherically better - would have liked a head on it, more choc malt and a tiny touch more carbonation but still much enjoyed.

On tap in tasting paddle. Nice looking pour, drank with a taste of coffee and smoke. Nicely balanced and interesting. Had another full one to follow and enjoyed. Would recommend

330mL bottle. Pours opaque brown/black with a thin persistent tan head which leaves a little lacing. Strong roasted aroma of coffee sweetened with molasses, some chocolate and wood. Mild bitterness, more coffee, chocolate, roast. Full body, bordering on syrupy, fairly soft carbonation, although it does have some bite. A lingering finish of bitter roasted coffee. Did I mention the roast?
