3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 bmeup (471) - Ormeau, - DEC 23, 2012Nice looker, head falls away quickly over a rich amber ruby coloured beer. Yep there is some very subtle smoke in there, but don’t expect too much. Quite a pleasant bitterness and balance of malt. Acceptable beer with good food.

Bottle. Pours a really nice bronze with some golden tinges down the side of the glass. Creamy tan coloured head. Aromas of rich toffee a touch of smoke and some nice floral hop aromas. Flavours are quite sweet as would be expected with a touch of alcohol to finish. Medium mouthfeel. Didnt mind this one to be honest.

I’ve just opened a growler at home on a rainy summer afternoon.
Sweet aroma with malty caramel and toffee notes.
I got an initial strong bittersweet malt, which leads into some spice in the body, and a slightly smokey bacon/lingering bitter finish.
I really enjoyed it; as a lighter bodied bock it suited the climate.

Openning aroma order - caramel, smokey, banana,
Poured aroma - caramel/smokey instant hit,
head fades before first sip
very dark appearance
first taste - malty smokey burst,
continuing - cannot taste the layers of malt mentioned. more of a blur.
medium sweetness, lightly bitter, oily feel, long finish,
Overall not too bad, defiantly would try another pint.

Deserves much better than the rating here would suggest. Unusual for a bock in how high the hop content is, regardless, this a very delicious, hoppy beer that boasts some lovely resinous cocoa and sweet coffee flavours with some smoke in the aftertaste. Odd but good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 madquacker (950) - Canberra ACT, AUSTRALIA - JAN 4, 2013
Dark red hue with low carbonation. Sweet with notes of raisens. Some added on smokiness at the end. High ABV. Not great for a version of a bock of some sort.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Maris (753) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - DEC 31, 2012
From a 568ml bottle on 31/12/2012. Pours a fairly clear light amber with a biggish head which disappears quickly. Has a modest woody, smoky aroma with some caramel in the mix. The flavour is more distinctive, with light caramel, toffee and biscuit to begin and then moving onto some quite strong spice notes and a light but unmistakable smokiness. Not a world beater, but relatively interesting and quite enjoyable.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 mkel07 (2340) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 11, 2012
500ml bottle from Archive. Very deep copper colour that is eye catching, along with a generous head of sand coloured foam. There is a nutty caramel aroma with just the faintest hint of campfire smoke way in the background. Thin and light in the mouth with subtle caramel malt, nut and biscuit flavours.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ComradeK (732) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - DEC 10, 2012
1 pint bottle. Pours a clear deep copper colour, with a large light beige head, which lasts very well and leaves good lace. Light wood smoke, a touch of citrus and some mild coffee create the aroma. Fairly strong citrus and spice hops mix nicely with a coffee flavour up front. This gives way to some cocoa in the mid-palate and a dry, mildly smoky finish. This beer has an interesting blend of reasonably strong hopping and smoked malt, but works quite well on the whole.
