COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We just can’t help it. We’re addicted to fresh hops. So, it’s no surprise that for our next Single Batch release we couldn’t wait to make a massive hop fueled double IPA.... The Big Dipper. When 215kg of fresh hops arrived at the brewery it took us all a little while to collect ourselves. Columbus, Cascade, Chinook, Stella, Centennial, Citra and Simcoe...mmmm.... we were like a bunch of kids in a hop flavoured candy store! (which on second thoughts and for anyone who’s been sipping on wort lately probably wouldn’t be all that delicious but let’s not let the truth get in the way of a good story) We’ve thrown a heap of these hops at this beer throughout the brewing process to create a big, double IPA full of flavour. Of course it didn’t take long till we started calling it the Big DIPA and when we realised there were seven stars in the constellation and seven hop varieties going into this bad boy the name just stuck. As for the technical stuff it’s about the biggest charge of hops ever seen in the Creatures brewhouse and has ended up with an IBU of 55, a EBC of 24 and a massive alcohol percentage of 7.8%. One for the true hopheads for sure.

I had been keeping a dozen bottles of this awsome beer. I just had a quick check in and was plesently suprised by the change in character of this hop mamoth. The big citrus tones have significantly diminished giving way to a prominent apricot in the aroma and taste. The Malts have also come to the fore with some chewy toffe, biscuit to back up. Overall not the beer I had nearly 18 month ago but I would suggest as good in its own right.

Bottle from mane liquor. By far my favourite little creatures beer. Aromas full of lychee, grapefruit, pine and tropical hops. Huge tropical fruit hop presence! Taste is a tropical fruit bowl with a caramel malt backing. Nice long crisp bitterness. Don't notice the 7.8%. Massive beer love this! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A-- Poured a clear, darker orange amber color. Bright white one finger head that slowly faded to film leaving a few traces of lacing. A few small carbonation bubbles here and there. Good head retention on swirling, goes to more of an off white head before slowly fading back to film. S-- Peach, apricot, pineapple, and orange. Nose is a bit soft but it is good. Not a big malt backbone but it is there. Slight bits of sweetness in the nose but really equates to a fruit salad. T-- Pungent orange with a little bit of peach and apricot. Just a touch bit medicinal and not forward hop driven. More fruit and touches of oil and sweetness. M-- Slick and slightly oily. Medium feel and low carbonation. Falls apart once it warms up, very pungent and all over the board. Much better colder and better integrated flavors colder. Bitterness is more in the mid and back of palate. Pretty good feel cold. Not so much over about 12 degrees. O-- Only negative is that it is a little harsh in the feel at times. Slightly boozy but not that bad. Drink a little colder and it is very solid. Nothing sexy about this at all

got lucky and found a couple at dan murphy’s today.pours a beutiful golden colour with a thick white head that leaves some impressive lacing. aroma is lots of fruit peach, passionfruit and a little citrus with some sweet malts in the background. tastes even better than it smell’s with plenty of fruity and earthy hops without an unpleasent bitterness, all backed up by plenty of malty goodness.one of my favourite IPA’s, just wish they would do it again.

Brown pint bottle into a stein glass. Body is a near clear dark amber with a small off white head that lingers and laces nicely. Fruity hoppy nose with oranges, peaches, passionfruit, pine needles, and a hint of vanilla. Palate is medium bodied with a mildly sweet malt base before a substantial lingering dry hop bitterness takes over. Easily drinkable given the high ABV. The bitterness is not overpowering like some American IPAs I could mention. One for the hopheads.

Great beer. Smelt fruity but the taste was different, more hops. It was forgiving for the 7.8%, I didnt even notice the alcohol. A great beer, definitely my favourite little creatures effort so far.

Cool not cold an into a snifter. Almost bright, light copper with little evident life bar an odd bubble here and there. Compact, tight off-white crown is mostly lasting with little lace. A lot of foliage, forest floor and pine roughage on the nose. Hints of rose water and cheap perfume come through too with a medicinal note tainting it. Palate has notes of sticky caramel, plastic, yeast and raw dough drowned under layers of bitter orange and orange and lemon peel. There is no peak on the swallow, its a lttle rough though with a good length of sweet caramel and toasted almonds. Good body, not overly big but firm, the carbonation very light giving it a smooth, oily finish. Alcohol is hidden well. This was interesting but not quite as challenging as I hoped. Flavour and aroma just doesn’t shine with all positves. Still not a bad effort from the boys in Freo! (568mL, BB 07/07/12, Bottlemart Merriwa)

Clear golden amber, pleasant aromas, hop characters is what its all about, but Double IPA? think Stone Ruination, Two Captains, BD Hardcore, Southern Tier................should have been a lot bigger. Fairly mild DIPA
