3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bluevegie (3004) - Perth, - APR 25, 2012Tried on tap at L/C brewery and out of the bottle at home. Clear dark orange body, a little fruity and sweet in the taste, hops don’t stand out a lot to me, light spice candi sugar and a touch of cloves, pretty full in the mouth but I could and did drink plenty of these.

THE QUIET AMERICAN
Colour: Bright gold
Aroma: initial hop aroma followed by yeasty sweet notes of banana and cloves.
Palate: Big mouthful of sweet caramel malt with hints of banana and clove continued from the nose. A mid level of bitterness then develops, which just keeps going and going but is beautifully intertwined back into the malt sweetness.
Overall: a fantastic beer unlike any Australian beer I’ve had. In my mind more of a nod to Belgian style ales, but the American hops (cascade and chinook) are still present in the initial aroma and then the incredibly long bitter palate.

Tripel...? The fruity stuff is there, some peach and banana but not all that spicy. Finish is hoppy and bitter. High carbonation. Really delicious, I like it.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Sethmerlin (6) - - SEP 2, 2012 does not count
The average Aussie beer drinker will probably drink this straight from the fridge. If they do, it’s a nice American IPA, great hop aroma and enough bitterness to keep you coming for the next sip. If they take the time for this to reach a better temp the Belgian yeast characters really shine, making it a far more dynamic drink. Very enjoyable! Pity it’s getting hard to find.... 568ml bottle.
