Gingerman. My favorite from Live Oak. Big crunchy head hints of wheat or rice. Rich with dates and sasparilla notes. Caramel coated biscuits with a pleasant finish, a fantastic attempt and easier than Ayinger.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Gingerman, Dallas. Loads of grape aroma and flavor, especially in the flavor. Tasty brew that I’d order again but could only manage to drink one of. Just too malty sweet for my tastes but another good brew from Live Oak.

clear, dark amber with a thin head. Dark caramel malt and raisen aroma with a hint of DMS. Big malt flavor with caramel. Has a bit of astringency and sourness. Perhaps a little thin in body for the style. Nice rendition but I liked previous years better.

Probably my favorite of their’s so far, though I did not check my previous ratings. Very full bodied with, as stated before, nice malty chewiness. In fact excellent malting on their part.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Delicious looking brown body with a thick and creamy beige head. smelled rich, vinous, and fruity. Taste was bready, fruity, and alcoholic. Mouthfeel was rich and chewy. Seems a bit undeveloped, but good nonetheless.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Dark amber, a bit hazy, beige head. Powerfully alcoholic, pungent aroma of perfume/flowers. Cherries, chocolate...the alcohol could be better; it somehow makes it immature tasting. Interestingly firm mouthfeel and less malt-forward than most dopplebocks.

Excellent beverage. Thick copper. Massive bubbles. Dies away. Cherries and currants. A litle bit of rum. Slight cheddar cheese. Flavors are powerful. Big bold rum raisin kick, with a much more subdued saltiness than most doppels I’ve had. This was appealing. Excellent flavors per the style. Great beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2006 On Tap at Lovejoy’s. This is from the last 5 gallon keg on earth of this beer. Vintage 1999. It really held up well. Not much head. Great prune/raisin notes in the nose. Great malty dopplebock flavor with a little raisin. Slight oxidation. A good beer that I will miss.
Update: Liberator is back and better than ever! Good job Steve!

This was one of the first Live Oak offerings I ever had and it thoroughly impressed me. Full, malty, complex to a degree for the style, chewy, just plain delicious. Now I find that there's a two year old cornelius keg or two that's been found and I'm itching to try it. Word I've heard is that it has aged very well and has only improved.
