Draft - Dark malts and a bit syrupy. Cloudy amber with a thin white head. Dark fruit esters and a bit of booze. Lots of fruit peel and caramelized sugars. Odd and there is a slight astringency, but the oddness makes it uniquely interesting.

Tap, cloudy orange pour with creamy light tan foam, aroma of fruity pineapple, flavor of good clean pineapple with a nice finish

On tap at Jackís. Canít believe I had never rated this one. Brown pour with a white head. The aroma is fairly malty with some strong caramel and biscuit notes as well as a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is similar. The big malt notes stand out, but they are accompanied by a bit of dark fruit, orange and grapes. I also get a bit of alcohol, but the alcohol is fairly well hidden. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Tap. The look is clear, decent light beige colored head, and brownish red color. The smell is banana, fruit, wheat, rice cakes, and yeasty. The taste is sugary, alcohol, fruit, wheat, and ok.

Deep brown with an average beige head. Aroma is of malt, light vegetal, and caramel. Taste is of soggy cardboard, caramel, and mash water.

Rich deep amber with a copper hue. Lasting thin tan head thatís pretty dense. Strong malty aroma but not sweet. Strong malty taste but well balanced by the hops. Smooth, strong, full. Good.

Probably my favorite of theirís so far, though I did not check my previous ratings. Very full bodied with, as stated before, nice malty chewiness. In fact excellent malting on their part.

Beerenberger (1551) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAR 9, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 10, 2013 Aroma of malts. Pours a dark amber with mostly diminishing tan head and minimal lacing. The taste is malt forward - slightly sweet. Malts, hints of nuts and dark fruit. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, I like it better than the first time I tried it. This Doppelbock was not as robust as some others I like from this style.

This was one of the first Live Oak offerings I ever had and it thoroughly impressed me. Full, malty, complex to a degree for the style, chewy, just plain delicious. Now I find that there's a two year old cornelius keg or two that's been found and I'm itching to try it. Word I've heard is that it has aged very well and has only improved.

Tap. Dark amber, a bit hazy, beige head. Powerfully alcoholic, pungent aroma of perfume/flowers. Cherries, chocolate...the alcohol could be better; it somehow makes it immature tasting. Interestingly firm mouthfeel and less malt-forward than most dopplebocks.
