IMO, this is the perfect pilsener. A little flowery, little spicy peppery, little hoppy flavors. Good crispness. Perfect body. Maybe even a tad creamy as it warms up? Can’t find a sinlge thing wrong with this excellent brew. ipaderek99 (4), Mill Valley, California, USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 13, 2002 This is one of the best Pilseners I’ve had. Quite hoppy for a pilsener. Finishes smooth. The perfect warm weather beer. fly (1334), austin, Tejas, USA

While there are oh so few decent beers to come out of Texas, Live Oak is a fantastic exception. This is a classic, Czech style pils. Nice bittering with body to back it up. A constant session beer and since it is draught only - for now- I feel lucky that there aer a few restaurants smart enough to serve it as well. grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 7, 2004 I am probably the captain of hyperbole but i love this brew. Yes I am from Austin and yes I love Live Oak but this beer...come on. Tastes like a bunch of czech’s made it. Better than the so called bohemian beer giant Pilsner Urquell...or so I think. The beer is a beautiful golden hue. A large frothy white head that dissipates slowly. Beer smells of saaz hops, but not as intensely bitter in the nose as Urquell more like a nice trip to your local botanical gardens in spring. The beer tastes incredibly subtle. :ingering afterbittermess like most good pilz but not like a karate kick to the mouth. INcredibly balanced with the malt so much so that the beer tastes like it were a unified army of goodness in my mouth. This beer seems yeasty to me. Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about but it just has that full apply fruitiness that all boldly yeasty examples retain. If you come to Austin on a hot summer day try this baby. It will give you a beer B.

I happened upon the Gingerman in Fort Worth and after trying about 5 tastes of nothing special, I LOCKED onto Live Oak Pilsener! Whow what a treat! It was my life ring in a day of swarming beer sloshers at Rahr. This beer is a true Bohemian Pilz. Arguably my favorite pilsener of all time behind Tony Gomes’ Saxer Pilsener. I brought in my own pilsener glass and after about the 4th try the bartender poured it in the proper way. Slam it to the bottom from maximum height. Let it sit for 4 or 5 minutes and then nurse more gently down the side.
A rocky snow cone head formed and rose about 1.5 inches above the rim. The color is golden (didn’t pay that much attention) but was opalescent as I remember Saxer’s legendary product.
The taste was clean and refreshing but the aftertaste is the grabber. It didn’t lock my jaws as Tony’s did but it dig grab me mid pallet and LINGERED! That’s what I look for in a Pils and Live Oak delivered! Could it be that this sensation requires a decoction mash, or maybe a double?
I’ve been searching high and low lo 10+ years to find a replacement for my favorite, and now defunct, Pils and I’ve found a worthy substitute. And, in all places, Texas! I’d written off anything brewed in Tejas until I had this beer.
Here’s to hoping my second encounter will equal the first! Truly a World Class Pilsener!

It has a nice hoppy aroma and a delicious, clean lager flavor. You just can’t beat this delicious Czech-style lager if you are fond of the style. Thank goodness we can find this beer at so many bars and restaurants in Austin. It’s a staple. Great beer. HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA
