On draft. Toffee smoke? I think so. Flavors of fruit tree smoke and chewy malts. Not sweet or syrupy, but just short of crisp. Faint chocolate malts at the finish. Well done!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Freetail. Orange-brown pour with a white head. The aroma and flavor have a good bit of meaty BBQ notes as well as some light toffee and caramel. The smoke is very strong but is well done and the beer is therefore enjoyable. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. As a huge fan of smoke beers, I am happy I got to try this one.

It’s not very often that I find a Live Oak beer that I’ve never reviewed. Refreshing, the idea of something new! Dark, almost copperish-gold in color with a strikingly bright white, somewhat dense head, this smoked version of Oaktoberfest has a soft, but definite wood smoked aroma with a touch of a downtown, German brewery.
The flavor is even more potent with smoke, but with a nice addition of Vienna or Munich to offset the smoke with a touch of roasty sweetness. It only starts to show its tell-tale signs of a lager through its finish, with subtle characteristics of a Rauchbier. It’s smooth and almost creamy, but sharp on the palate... And the smoke helps with the sharpness. Not bad for a lager, or an Oktoberfest for that matter. It almost doesn’t even taste like an Oktoberfest, though, because of how much the smoke overshadows the caramel malts.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
GABF 2013. Pours a clear burnt orange appearance with a thin cream colored head. Caramel, meaty, rich malty aroma that smells very nice. Flavor is pretty tasty, maybe a touch thin. Toasted caramel malty, toffee, light brown sugar, smoked ham flavor. Would drink again.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear amber with a whitish head and moderate lacing. Aroma of caramel and toasty malt with light smoke. More smoke in the taste atop a mild malty sweetness. Light-medium bodied. Not bad.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draught) clear copper, few bubbles. Nose of rich caramel, marshmallow, light alcohol, German hops, excellent smoky linger. Honestly, one of my favorite Live Oak beers to date.
