Had this in bottle, picked up at Appleyards Deli’, Shrewsbury during Folk Festival w/e. Consumed at home Wednesday 24th September 2014 Pours black with a tan head. A very good imperial stout seemingly more in the UK mould of this style as opposed to how the US interprete it. This doesn’t have a full on sour or saltiness to compliment the roast flavours like some, though the fruitiness does have a little sourness bristling at the edges and roasted flavours are smoothed out a little. Very nice. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Cask @ The Angel, Manchester. Not black but not clear as it has a small red glow and a small off-white creamy head. Has a sweetened nose but not so in taste with bushy floral notes that linger.

500 ml bottle. 8.1%. BBE Dec/2014. From England. Thanks Jukka! HHOK XVI.
Pitch black colour with a tiny light tan head. Weak aroma... at first. When it warms up a little bit it shows the true colours. Sweet roasted malt, molasses, liquorice, whiskey sweetness and mild sourness. The flavour is very nice. Tasty. Medicine, liquorice, salty liquorice, dry maltiness, mild berries, molasses, chocolate, dryness, mild sourness and some whiskey notes in the flavour. Complex and truly enjoyable.

NWAF 25 Jan 13. Svart. Filmskum. God sjokoladearoma. Myk munnfølelse. Plommesmak. Søt. Blir litt syrlig etter hvert. Overraskende ensformig.

Toasty malt aroma. Quite a thick and luscious texture. Warming, rich, vinous and strong roast bitterness.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2014 Black body, brown head. Aroma has some roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and flat acidic medicinal hops. Some body and richer malts in flavour. Bit light for Imperial Stout. Second rating added 0.2 to total score. More lactic, molasses and coffee. Ripe fruity nose.

Opaque black beer, bubbly pale tan head. Smooth semi dry palate. Light dark malt, nice unsweet dark chocolate. All right.

Cask served from bar 2 at NWAF ’13. Opaque dark body colour. Disappearing tan-coloured head. Aroma contains dark malts revealing hints of liquorice. Blended and rather complex taste of dark fruits and dark chocolate malts followed by a twist of bitter liquorice to the ending. Medium bodied. Smooth in the mouth. Nice (Manchester, 25.01.2013).

Cask conditioned at The Lamb & Flag, Oxford. Thick black with slight tan head. This isn’t a normal Friday night beer, certainly, and quite a surprise something this big in here. Rich, sweet, smooth and fruity from the off with a dark chocolate note and a tarry, bitumen hint in the close. Heavy on the palate, a real winter warmer and worth having.

Cask at the Euston Tap - 13/03/12. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Dark malt, sweet sugars, cocoa on the nose. All about the roasted malts in the taste, licquorice but a little boozy which wasn’t disguised well enough. Didn’t do it for me.
