Gravicask at NWAF 2013, half pint shared with Finn. Bubbly tan-coloured head. Near-black coloured body. Dark chocolate nose added by vanilla. Woody vanilla flavour mingled with chocolate leading to a malty dry bitter ending. Medium bodied and well made (Manchester, 23.01.2013).

Cask conditioned handpump Duck & Drake Leeds 01/05/13. A black beer with a thick off-white head. Lovely vanilla in the nose with coffee notes. Same in the mouth. Smooth and on point. A very decent and tasty vanilla stout. Less chocolate than expected but a mighty fine beer.

As stouty as stout gets, with a small quick clearing tan head. The aroma is milk chocolate and some roast malt. The flavour reminded me of a Penguin chocolate bar! Lovely and smooth

Cask-conditioned at the Merseyside beeriodical, the Seven Stars, Bristol February 2013. Black with a decent, off-white head. Big, plan chocolate notes, charred malts and a touch of vanilla sweetness, before a dryish finish. Good.

Cask @ The Euston Tap. The pour’s deep brown with a small, bubbly tan head. The aroma’s very sweet. Plenty of vanilla cream, some rich cocoa, hershey’s chocolate syrup. A ’prepare the epipen!’ nose. The taste is very sweet. Plenty of rich milk chocolate and vanilla. A touch of roasted nuts, earthy malts. Smooth body, soft carbonation. Overall, a bit too sweet and unbalanced for my taste.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours rich brown with a cascading, tight tan cream cap, a la Guinness. Solid, classic aroma, all big chocolate, mocha, mild roast. Flavor follows fairly well, with light sweetness, deep and burnt cocoa, burnt grass and wood, some charcoal. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Surprisingly bitter ending, with considerable burnt grass, modest roast and baking cocoa. Pretty decent overall.
