Gravicask at NWAF 2013, half pint shared with Finn. Bubbly tan-coloured head. Near-black coloured body. Dark chocolate nose added by vanilla. Woody vanilla flavour mingled with chocolate leading to a malty dry bitter ending. Medium bodied and well made (Manchester, 23.01.2013).

Cask at the Robinson Arms, Nottingham. Aroma tasted malts with Smokey vanilla notes. Pours dark mahogany with thick cream tan foam. Tastes of milk chocolates and coffee with a smith vanilla finish. A very fine specimen, indeed.

500ml bottle conditioned: BB Dec 2015. Drank at home on 25th Sep 2015 during a random tasting evening I had with myself. Deep, dark brown bodied brew, the sediment joined the glass, so it was a little ’murky’, the top off-white and slowly fading to a wisp and collar with slight lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate and malted barley. The taste was also dark chocolate and malty, slightly burnt, smoky feel to the flavours. Expected a smoother, richer palate to the brew to be honest, this was OK but lacked depth and discernment.

Cask at the Anchor Birmingham. Poured almost black with a bubbly light tan head. The aroma is big chocolate malt. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter with a dry coffee spice, chocolate, smoky malt palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. A little light but packed full of flavour.

Cask @ The Pumphouse, Liverpool. Black with a thick slightly, off-white, creamy head. There’s a highly desirable chocolate nose to this ale, but it’s disappointingly low of this in its flavour. However it does have a nice smooth tasting texture.

Cask at Bursley Ale House, Burslem. A deep dark brown colour with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, milk chocolate, cream, vanilla and a some coffee and toffee. Taste of roasted malts, butterscotch, vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee and slight burnt taste. Medium bodied and a soft carbonation. A dry, roasted finish. Slightly unbalanced but still tasty.
