COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2009/2010 batch (#2) is a Belgian Quadrupel aged in a Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout cask for 20 months by it’s re-release in 2010. During this time some wild yeast development as also occured. A younger version was limited release in 2009 and at that point had not developed any wild yeast tones. 2008 Batch #1 were aged various lengths (8 to 18 months) in a 5th use bourbon barrel and then dry-hopped with English Fuggles hop. The initial Livery batch 99 was brewed for release in celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the brewery in 2007.

Draft sample @ MBGSF 08. Pours a hazy golden amber color with a small off white head. The aroma was sweet caramel, fruity, vanilla, oak and yeast. The flavor had more caramel malt sweetness, fruit, yeast, light spice, and a splash of vanilla. Medium to full bodied, the alcohol is present but not distracting. This is a pretty decent quad.

On tap at The Livery. Pours a dark copper color with a very thin light tan head that disappears almost as quickly as the glass gets set down. Swirling will do nothing to bring it back ground the dead. The nose is odd--it smells like grainy sawdust that has been soaked in a strong alcohol solution. No real dark fruit character until it starts to really warm up when I get a bunch of really sweet grapes. The flavor is really bad--quite grainy and not nearly full enough in body. Pretty gross. Thanks a million, BBB63! Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed amber body. There are a few disorganized bubbles on top, but calling it a "head" would be a somewhat dubious claim. Smell: A fruit platter served upon a wooden plank with a side of caramel. Taste: Caramel and a melted candy sweetness overlayed with a pleasant fruitiness of peaches, pears, and lychees. An everpresent woodiness and light tannins help lend it a dry finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation. Drinkability: Pretty good. I, myself, did not find the wood character to be overwhelming (or even whelming).

At the ’08 MBG festival. Deep golden color with a thin, off white head. Nose of caramel sweetness, fruit and some bubblegum. Lots of cereal grains in the flavor with caramel sweetness, yeast, and a dried fruitiness. Nice Quad.

Growler from BBB63, thanks Mike. Shared with bikesanbeers, my girlfriend Cyn and his girlfriend Jessi. This is so damn easy to drink its kind of insane. Pours copper with a tan ring. Nose is sweet and oaky, with hints of alcohol, overall a very big nose, There is also apple elements in the nose. Taste is sweet, with some molasses, sugary, big alcohol is hidden, this an interesting brew, it reminds me of a Weizenbock with its apple cidery taste and look. This was very easy to drink and as such got me somewhat trashed.

Thanks Mike via Jason! The beer pours to a glowing vibrant amber body with no head. The aroma is apricots, pears, sweet fruits. Some sort of sweet barrel, but not too much. The flavor is sweet and fruity with a nice oaken apricots and orange laden barley. Very balanced and blended. The palate is sweet, mildly warming, and medium bodied.

Shared by BBB63 at DLD. Not normally how I’d start off a massive beer tasting, but OK! Sweetish bourbon whiskey aroma, sweet florals, oxidized and muddy flavor. Oldish and very strong, but shows some decent complexity. This is the first of many beers where I could’ve spent a lot more time with the brew and written a lot more but the general insanity of DLD prevented me from writing top-notch ratings. Hopefully I will have a chance to revisit these beers in the future.

Draft @ The Livery. Pours a murky, grapefruit-brown color; bright off-white head with web-like lacing; attractive, chewy looking pour. Lots of tart grapefruit, brown sugar, and sour cherries and breadiness; excellent grapefruit and toasty oak notes. Medium-to-full, dense chewy mouthfeel: lots of chewy grapefruit, brown sugar, breadiness and toasty wooden character; gorgeous, soft mouthfeel; tart grapefruit note sits beautifully inside the oak and chewy malt core. Excellent stuff. Lengthy finish, showing brown sugar, candy sugar, and toasty oak.
