Aged 3 months in a Merlot used cask with had added a sourness and wild character to the base Biere De Garde. Brewed in honor of the Tour De France, "Maillot Jaune" or "Yellow Jersey". The Grand Reserve version has been aged an additional 6 months plus in the barrel and is now listed at 8% ABV.

Draft to taster at The Livery. This is the 2014 vintage, which is 6% and aged in white wine barrels (and should probably be a separate entry). Looks solid; a transparent gold with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells mildly tart and bretty with a soft presence from the white wine barrel. Tastes like it smells with a pleasantly tart mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Growler thanks to cpferris. Pours mostly clear golden with a minimal head. The aroma has a little Brett, with not too much else really to it. The flavor is somewhat Belgian with a small malt presence and some wild/bretty notes. The palate is very light with a mild acidity. Really drinkable and even refreshing.

2014 version pour on tap at the brewery, hazy golden pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of biscuit, white grape, hints of yeast, spice, some earth, touch of grass. Taste is slight tart fruit, white grape, peach, some hints of bread, biscuit, touch of spice, finishing with some oak, dry, slightly tart.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2011 Tap at the ’08 MBG Summerfest. Clear deep gold pour. Sweet but sour with notes of grass, pepper, and lemon. A little aqueous like a weak saison. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

On tap at The Livery, pours an orangish color with a nice white head, has some sour fruit notes to it but was nothing to go crazy over. Not a bad brew but nothing too special.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2011 On tap; pour is murky light golden with a very modest head that rings the tulip. There’s hardly anything here; anyway - the nose is perhaps the highlight of this brew. Apple skins, lemon grass, a light funkiness is present. Unfortunately, the flavor profile is muted out of the gate. The apple skins, lemon zest, grassy hops, and very mild barnyard notes are pleasant, but at the end of the day, this brew needs a lot of development to reach another level.

The beer pours a hazy amber color with minimal carbonation and white foam. A lightly tart fruit aroma, perhaps a bit of peach and lemon. Some wet oak and a bit of must and straw. The flavor isn’t terribly impressive, unfortunately. A bit watery with some mustiness, straw, and oak. A moderate acidity and some lemon zest and light fruits. Light to medium in body with low carbonation.

On tap at the hopcat. Clear straw with small white head. Aroma is yeast and alc, spice, not much of a barrel characteristic or biere de garde. Flavor is light and refreshing, spice, yeast, slight chalky, not bad but once again not much barrel charecteristic. Light, semi-watery, light carbonation. Okay.

On tap at the HopCat. Orangey yellow with n off white head. Aroma of oak, wine. Kind of salty and earthy. Flavor is oaky and yeast, a light cracker malt and sweetness. This was alright, not really sour. This beer was like a party you weren’t that excited to go to, and you went and it was alright, but afterward people keep telling you how they heard the party was so awesome and you just were kind of confused why.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2014 Bottle: 2014. Cloudy, translucent bright yellow with a slightly foamy off-white head, thin & quick to recede. Aroma of musk, hay, mild rotten pineapple Brett notes, dusty cobwebs, cotton must, withered wood, & hints of semi-tart green apple. Taste is kind of thin, almost a little watery. Slick & nice mouth feel, though. Brettanomyces present in the form of a light, acidic fruit skin tartness & a strong dampening of musty old barnyard floor. But not in a funky Belgian kind of way... Almost overly musk filled & dry without much balance. Strong notes of dried out wood, cotton, & bready yeast in the finish. Faint hint of apple, maybe some lemon. Kind of light all-around, & a little too Brett forward at times. Not bad, but fairly forgettable.
