Cloudy orange pour with no head or visible carbonation. Lots of tart fruit aroma, particularly plums. Some citrus notes, a bit of stone fruit, and mild malt sweetness. A bit of vanilla, wood, and kumquat. Very strong plum, apricot, tangerine, and kumquat fruit flavors. Some toffee maltiness, a bit of wood, vanilla, and a nice lactic tartness.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jbeatty (506) - New York, USA - NOV 27, 2012
Bottle, 11/27/2012. Pours ruby brown, slight haze, no head aside from a few transitory bubbles despite a vigorous pour. Aroma has plums, dark berries, vinous, tart lactic funk, followed by light layer of toffee, woody finish. Taste is sweetly tart, candied fruits, plum especially, lightly oxidized sherry, a bit of moldy funk, caramel overtones with barrel notes on the breath. Medium heavy palate, lack of carbonation lets the flavors come out, alcohol not apparent. All in all kind of like a nicely aged old beer actually, interesting in its own way.

Draft to taster at The Livery. Looks decent; a cloudy brown with razor-thin white lacing. Smells and tastes infected with a below-average mouthfeel. I hope this is infected...or that’s even worse.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 sarro (111) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - MAY 27, 2011
64oz growler shared at a great A2 tasting--thanks James! Umae Umami pours a dark amber with nearly no head and very light carbonation. We actually had this growler filled at the HopCat and noticed it was under carbonated having samples of it on tap at the time. Smell is prickly fruit, oak, light red wine, a bit of funk and sour acetone. The taste is sour prunes, sour grapeskin, and oaky tannins along with some celery & veggie-like dryness on the finish. Tart, dark fruit dominates the mid-palate. It’s highly drinkable with a medium-full body and I easily drank my fair share of around 16+ oz.

Sampled from a growler shared by BA iceicebaby. Pours a clear deep amber color with a small bubbly head. The aroma had dark fruits, plums, sweet caramel, acidic notes, with mild tart qualities. The flavor is the same with the sweet/tart combination working very well together. Barrel notes are subtle. Ripe plums and caramel blend nicely. This is much too drinkable at 13% and should come with a warning label. Definitely a surprise favorite of the day.

Tap in snifter. Poured a hazy reddish amber color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour and tart fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.
