4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Brigadier (2230) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - MAY 1, 2006Tasted at Dark Lord Day from a growler
Thanks whomever brought this (BBB63?). There was a nice sized head with some reasonably clean lacing over the deep maple brown body. I picked up hints of cherries, wheats, malt and oak chips; overall it was slightly sour. When I sipped my sample there was a combination of creamy vanilla, wheat, sour cherries, oak barrels and caramel. The finish was sweet, smooth but a little syruppy. Excellent and enjoyable overall. I’ll have to try the regular Belgian Cherry Wheat to see what the cask aging did for it.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Tmoney99 (8782) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 25, 2006
Draft sample at the brewery. Poured hazy reddish copper with an average fizzy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex sweet tart citrus aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet sour finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer thaty would go well with spicy food or a good cigar.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 hezron (606) - Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 22, 2006
Nice aroma that is loaded with Cherries, caramel malt, oak, vanilla, brown sugar and very nice. Cloudy ruby-brown without a head at all. Sweet and woody with lots of cherry and brown sugar. There is a slightly sour tinge in the end, but overall it is sweet and warming. Thin body, slightly astringent with very light carbonation. On tap at the GTMW 2006.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ughsmash (6669) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 18, 2006
On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Poured an ugly caramel brown showing very little activity. Nose was quite full, with tart cherries, lightly-smoked toasty caramel, and butterscotch. Cherries, oak, light smoke, and vanilla bourbon in the flavor, with a long, tart cherry finish. A bit slick on the palate with very low carbonation... Rather solid overall.

Draught. Brown-copper with a small white head. The aroma has caramel, butterscotch, tart cherries, leaves, and dark malts. Sticky sweet with tart cherry substance. Interesting warm body. Not bad at all.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 blankboy (5151) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 28, 2006
Draught at 2006 MBG Summer Festival. Pours a hazy orange-copper with a spare diminishing off-white head. Very nice aroma with lots of oak (whiskey or bourbon-ish) along with sour cherries, malt and hops. Flavour follows the aroma but is a little more subtle then the aroma suggests. Average body, I found it a little thin. I liked it, it’s definitely an interesting beer.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GregClow (2736) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 25, 2006
Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. Hazy ruby-brown with a small head. Strong, inviting aroma of sour cherry and oaked whiskey. Very nice flavour - tart cherry and wood notes, and not as much alcohol as the aroma (and abv) suggests. Really enjoyable, and a great way to start the day at the Festival.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 HogTownHarry (5638) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - JUL 25, 2006
UPDATED: JUL 26, 2006 Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Opinions were very mixed about this one, but it worked for me. Cloudy ruby-orange-brown with a small off-white creamy head. Aroma of sour cherry, slightly sour white wine, masses of oak, and booze - really tickled the old nostril hairs. Even more oak character in the taste, again sour cherry and sourish off-dry white wine, lighter alcohol presence, and yeast. Average body, very woody and atringent mouthfeel - a little flat - and a tangy linger - my notes: "This really works!"
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jercraigs (6477) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 24, 2006
Michigan Brewers Festival 2006. Hazy red amber body with a small off white head. Lightly woody aroma over mild cherries. Flavour of mildly sour cherries with a backdrop of wood from the barrel. Average palate. I’m not big on cherry flavours so I am slightly biased against it to start with. Needs a bit more body and flavour oomph to complement the barrel influence. This shows much more balanced wood than does their scotch ale sampled previously. Not bad – add a few points if you like cherry.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Styles (2014) - Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA - JUL 16, 2006
Tap: 4-28-06. Transparent orangish-mahogany, with no head whatsoever. Nice sweet and sour aroma, not quite mouth puckering, faint woodiness in the background. Flavor has a nice sour cherry kick to it, with tons of woody tannin like flavors. Very sneaky smooth on the palate. Highly sessionable.
