Tap at Great Taste. Pours a deep black with a small dark brown head. Nose reveals bourbon, sweet dark malts, and some roast. Taste is cherry chocolate fudge complimented by bourbony oak, vanilla, roasted malts, and a bit of alcohol as it warms. Lots of chocolate, roastiness, and bourbon on the forefront. Mouthfeel is pretty full with low-medium carbonation. It’s like BA Plead the Fifth with cherries. World class barrel aged stout!

Thanks, Derek. Flat, black pour with no head at all. Strong vanilla and bourbon character. Plenty of roasted malt and a definite cherry note in the back ground. Plenty of oak and alcohol, too. The flavor is dominated by the cherry. Lots of cherry skin, some roasted malt, a light tartness/acidity, and plenty of bourbon. Some alcohol, dark chocolate, coffee, and charred wood.

On tap at GTMW. Poured black with a well-retained dark brown head. The aroma picked up lots of sweet and tangy bourbon, oak, and vanilla over somewhat soapy chocolate malts.. warmed the nostrils.. lots of sourness evident. The flavor found warm black and roasted chocolate malts at the core, with accents of vanilla, tart cherries, and oak around.. peppery, sour, belly-warming finish. Heavy-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. too sour for my liking, but I think it was intentional.. this grew on me.

Overly waxed bottle and served in my Livery 4th anniversary chalice: Pour is dead flat, zero signs of carbonation. Deep brown near black hue with some reddish highlights. some oily legs. The aroma has notes of liquorice, chocolate, leather, roast, charred oak, bourbon, cherry and musty yeast esters. The taste is actually very nice with tartness from the cherries counteracting the massive sweetness from the malt. Moderate bourbon character throughout with a charred sweet smokey finish. Oh yeah, it is a tad boozy too. The mouth feel is medium to heavy bodied and oily but as mentioned before dead flat. If this was carbonated I could really dig this but the heat from the alcohol and tannins from the wood just sits on the palate and loses major points overall. Alas I guess I will cellar my other bottle in the hope some yeasties take hold and add some carbonation at some point. This beer should have been great...

It took a while to get to the Livery booth. Even though it never had a long line I was busy checking out the plethora of other excellent releases. Fortunately they still had this great imperial stout available late in the day. One of the biggest beers I tried all day it packs a punch.

Aroma / Appearance - The deep inky base is oily and thick. A cocoa head decorates the top like frosting. Cherries, oak, vanilla, plums, and malt drive home the point that this is a big bold beer.

Flavor / Palate - Dense and chewy the mouthfeel coats the palate in creamy booze. Oak, chocolate, and vanilla hang around after an impression of espresso, cherries, and plum. The 15% ABV is not subtle. Even so I would be willing to drink a full pint if I had the time to dedicate only to this gem.

Draft sample at MBGSF 12. Poured a ruby black color with a moderate creamy brown head that diminished slowly and produced sticky legs and fair lacing. Good roasted malt, tart cherry and woody bourbon aroma. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Heavy complex tart cherry dark malt sweet stout flavor with a smooth bourbon woody finish. Very well balanced complex barrel stout. This is a standout beer.

Enjoyed at GTMW 2012. Pours a dark black with an amber cream head. Smells of bourbon and chocolate. Tastes of chocolate and sour cherries with some carbonation the dissipates quickly. Sour chocolate finish.

Draft pour on tap at GTMW 2012 (Madison, WI). Pours a rich deep dark pour, rich frothy light brown head laces well. Aromas are sour cherry and cocoa, gentle roast, toffe, and toast. Vanilla, oak, and sour cherries. Intial is fuller bodied, sour cherry, vanilla, oak up front. Middle shows oak, vanilla, toffee. Some richer sour elements start to grow. Middle offers cocoa, toast, toffee, some sour and tart cherry elements grow. Richly tart cherry influence, bitter, and oaky as we go through the middle. Base gets thinned a bit, toffee and toast, vanilla and oaky elements. Richly sour, deep roasty and dark malts, good tart sour balance. Nice!

Black pour small brown head actually creates legs on the glass. Sweet syruppy aroma hints of cherry over a touch of chocolate. Full well coated palate. Syruppy sweet taste cherries and bourbon w/ a touch of vanilla. Good but a fuesal alcohol finish keeps it from great.
