India Pale Ales, or IPA’s, were brewed for British soldiers stationed in India. These ales needed to higher in alcohol and hoppier than normal to survive the long journey, and ours is no exception. Brewed with Belgian and German malts and dry hopped with loads of Cascades, our version honors our friend who had his own grueling journey involving a boat and cold water!

Draft: Poured at the brewpub...orange/copper in color, slightly murky with a fluffy white head. Nose hints at light grapefruit, pale malts, floral and citrus hops with a spiced presence that seemed to hit on all cylinders. Nice, pleasant mouth feel consisting of light citrus, floral hops and a mildly resin finish.

The pour is an attractive hazy coppery’gold. Moderate PNW hop nose, and a touch of cattiness. Nice basic biscuity caramel sweetness and citus(grapefruit) and Pine hop bite in the finish. Quite well done IPA.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, coppery body with a small, white head. Smell: Floral, lightly lemony aroma with a backing of standard pale malts. Taste: Pale malts with no more than a slight sweetness. Pop of grapefruit flavor and a hit of citric acid. Floral flourish on the palate. Dash of mineral water. Altogether bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A pleasant, refreshing, decently drinkable IPA.

From a growler at DLD.. I’m going to guess that Mike brought it. Poured clear, medium golden with a nice cap of white head. The aroma picked up sweeter pale malts with rising cat pee bitterness as it breathed.. quite well balanced. The flavor focused on the hop blend (pine, grapefruit, and cat pee) with sufficient pale and caramel malt sweetness to back it up.. finished bitter and quite refreshing. Sweet, spicy, and bitter notes formed a good contrast on the palate with more fragrant spicy notes on the back.. I really liked this.

Cloudy golden pour. Kind of a weak IPA as IPAs go with a lemon hint on the tastebuds. A bit dry and slightly overcarbonated.

On tap at the brewery. Yellow, small white head. Light citrus hop, some malt. Flavor is grainy, citrus hops, bubblegum, wheat, banana. Med body, medium carb. Nice standard IPA, maybe more hops would help this one out.

On tap at the Livery. This blond ale poured with a short off-white head. There is a moderately hoppy flavor with a carbonated malt finish. The flavor is a bit thin, but still quite drinkable.

Draft @ the brewery and from a growler a day later......Color is a nice, slightly hazy gold-orange with a small-med white head. Aroma is dominated by grapefruit hops with some light floral and malt smells. Flavor is a smooth and tingly with a nice grapefruit hop flavor and a subtle malt finish. Not over the top, but a good summer IPA.
