COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Irish Red Lager
Named for Steves' friend Ed Lewis, who has been building canoes and paddles in this area for many years and who built Steve his custom mash paddle for the brewery. Deep red in color, this beer has a nice maltiness balanced with an English hop bitterness in the finish.

Sample at the Livery. Pours like color of clover honey. Smells like a clean lager, but with character. Taste also starts lager-like, but then turns on the hop and malt profile and becomes pleasantly sweet. Nice and clean, if unremarkable.

Sampler at the source. Body is medium gold with a little haze. Aromas are mildly malty and peppery hops. Flavor is a little peppery and refreshing.

Tap at brewery. Sweet butterscotch, banana aroma. Copper with a small off white head. Funky malt, grassy hops flavor. This one was kind of weird for me.

Tap. Butterscotch malt aroma. Hazy amber color with small head and nice lacing. Sweet toffee malt flavor initially with strong bitter citrus hops finish. A good one.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours reddish brown with a thin off-white head and a floral aroma. There is a fresh lager taste and a llittle bitterness at the finish. Average tasting lager.

On tap at Dusty’s Tap Room, Okemos. Hazy red body, thick, creamy head that leaves nice lacing. Soapy, piny hops assert slight dominance over Munichy caramels and berries. Nice, herbal, bitter finish. Well-balanced and tasty.

Doughy nose with bread and herbs with just a touch of berries and dark fruits. The flavor is lightly sweet, light/moderately bitter with a touch of caramel, doughy malts, dusty yeast and light dark fruit. Medium body is soft with moderate carbonation. Nice beer.

Pours a dark dark amber, well hazed, with small white head that dissipates to a film. Aromas are faint, lightly malty but not much going there. Initial is lightly sweet, throwing some fruity notes, light hoppy bitterness. Apple fruit, light spice make this beer very quaffable overall. Finishes mellow sweetness, near non existant bitterness. Very nice overall.

Draft sample at MBG Winterfest 2009. Pours reddish/brown color with a moderate frothy white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium roasted sweet malty aroma. Medium bodywith a smooth deep texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.
