BBB63 (3767), La Porte, Indiana, USA Nov 22, 2005 On tap and severed in a snifter: Reddish coppery hue with a small ring of frothy head and some lace. The aroma has notes of peppermint, apricot, banana, caramel, sugar, clove like Belgian yeast esters, nice. The taste starts fruity and yeasty with a slightly sweet malt background but nor dominating. A nice lightly spiced and bitter bite on finish with just some alcohol presence. Not quite tradional but not quite that far off either. The feel is sticky and oily, smooth and only moderate warming. Darn good and quite honestly surprising, I like it, yummy!
ultraspank (856), Dublin, Ohio, USA Feb 18, 2007 Sampled from a Growler @ Aofoxxy’s Labor day gathering ’06. Floral nose of alcohol & mostly dried fruit with additional berry presence. My only issue with the nose would be a hint of some vinegar & some leather. Pours a cola color with no head. The flavor is very malty through & through. Very sweet with caramel, figs, and date flavor prominent. The finish is fair with nice complexity. The palate is full, creamy & flat. Tmoney99 (3503), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 25, 2006 Draft sample at brewery. Dark reddish brown color with an average fizzy head that was mostly lasting with a good lacing. Heavy roasted malt woody bourbon aroma. Mediumt to full body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of long duration. Another very solid beer. SubstanceT (1087), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 26, 2006 Hazy brown with a thin white head. Slight carbonation. The nose is sweet almost sugary and the taste is very sour and sharp with yeast and strong alcohol. Interesting. CaptainCougar (4625), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jan 22, 2006 Sampled from a growler at the Milwaukee YEHa!05 courtesy of BBB63: Pours a still dark mahogany with some viscous legs. Bittersweet, dry bready Belgian yeasty and toasted caramel aroma is more reminiscent of a quadrupel. Starts full bodied with a nice malty bready caramel presence toward a drier, crisp finish. Has some subtle nuttiness and sticky toffee flavor. Not quite on style, but a decent beer nonetheless. DavidP (1710), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 7, 2006 Yet another growler shared by Mike. Clear dark brown body. Pear, yeast, brown sugar malt in teh aroma. Big sweet flavor plus some hoppy tartness. Brown sugar malt, caramel, chocolate. A bit overstated.
