Brewmaster Steve took his Belgian Amber Ale and re-fermented it in a merlot cask with 100# of sweet Michigan cherries from Husteds Farm Market. He than moved the resulting beer into another cask with 30# of tart cherries. 5 fermentations due to wild yeast and 9 months later, we have our version of a Belgian Kriek. Named after our good friend and musician, April Verch.

On tap at The Livery 9th Anniversary party. Pours is a hazy amber, maroon hues, small bubbly head. Aromas of cherry chapstick, wet oak, cobweb and a light spice. Taste is loaded with tart cherry flavors. I wish a higher carbonation would have pushed them further. Still, the mouthfeel was of a nice, medium-bodied beer. Plenty of tartness and acidity creep into the finish. More oak, cherry and funk culminate in a harmonious finish. Great stuff!

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2015 Draft to snifter at The Livery. Looks good; a hazy dark amber with off-white lacing. Smells good too; oaky and mildly funky with a nicely balanced cherry presence. Tastes like it smells with a surprisingly smooth mouthfeel, especially considering the abv. Good stuff!

From a growler at Cajun Cafe on the Bayou Sour Fest. Pours a hazy amber brown with an off-white head. Nose is some sour cherries, some caramel, some vinous character, some earth, some wood, and some brett. Flavor is similar with caramel malt, some earthy brett, some sour cherries, some sweet cherries, lots of vinous character with added funk. Medium in body and a nice and complex sour overall.

I believe FlandersNed graciously shared this with me at Jackie O’s. My first beer from the Livery. LIving in South Bend for a big chunk of my life I have to say I was definitely excited to try this. Cloudy pink pour with a fizzy white head. Funky aroma with subtle hints of cherries. Spritzy mouth-feel. Tart, fruity and refreshing. Dry I cant wait to try more sours from these guys. send em’ my way!!!

Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph.
Pours a nice clear deep red with a light creamy off-white film head. Aroma is delicious, cherries, caramel, sweetness, light sugary. Highish carbonation, dry and elegant mouthfeel. Flavour is dry, cherries, tartness, tomato(?), oranges, viniousness. Light burning in my throat. Somehow it all doesn’t add up.
