CaptainCougar (4596), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 6, 2006 Hand bottled sample courtesy of BBB63 via JPDIPSO and MrFacto: Pours a nearly opaque murky, viscous mahogany brown with thin strings of carbonation. Aroma is rich and sweet with dark caramely malt and some dark fruit raisiny complexity with a touch of noble hops. Body starts with lots of sweet viscous sugary caramel and fruity malt character. Has a touch of bready German weizen yeast in the lightly sticky finish. Hides its alcohol magnificently. Very well-balanced and complex, I sure wish I could try some more of this. hopscotch (4358), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 2, 2006 Growler... DLD06... Very dark, opaque ale with a small, dark brown head (with an orange tint). The nose is all about molasses, dark raisins and dried plum. The flavor is sweet and also produces lots of dark fruit and molasses. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and almost no carbonation. Finishes sweet and caramelly. Quality beer, although a bit cloying and too intense for my taste buds. Brewed to style, I suppose. Thanks to bbb63 for sharing his growler! Cornfield (4245), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Oct 18, 2007 This was listed on the board as Trippelweizenbock and had an ABV of 11.75% . It pours a murky dark brown body with practically no head. Hard to tell this was a wheat beer of any sort. It’s got a strong roasted aroma with some charcoal, maple syrup, and dark dried fruits. The alcohol is very apparent in the flavor. You’ll also find some smoke, bittersweet chocolate, and dark caramel added to what carries over from the nose. Boozey. An interesting, complex beer. <font size=-4> The Livery, Benton Harbor, MI<font size=-1> JPDIPSO (4180), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Feb 5, 2006 Thick dark brown pour from the growler - ala Mike. Thin light tan lid of tiny bubbles. Huge aromas of over-ripe fruit. Prunes, plum and raisins all together and lightly stewed. Thick and lightly oily in feel. Deep heavy malt aromas abound under the fruit, with mild earthy sorghum and a touch of brown sugar. Just a hint of piney hops. Thick flavors go with the feel and aromas. More dark fruits and a touch of sweet pipe tobacco. Seems to be a cross between a hearty dubbel and an old ale that works in my book. I could curl up with this any dark and cold night and be warmed and comforted.
