2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Perfectly ok, just not a stand-out. You’d expect a bit more flavour given the alcohol content. Coopers stout could compete with it. On tap at the Wheaty.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap. Pours dark brown with a reddish tinge and a tan head. Aromas of oats, coffee and chocolate with some sweet caramel and liquorice. Taste highlights the chocolate and data and is finished with some liquorice and molasses. Not exceptional, but very delicious on a cold day

5.8% On tap at Hashigo Zake, Wellington NZ
Poured with a towering head that had excellent retention and lacing
Aroma: sweet, with oats, chocolate and red wine.
Flavor: better and more true to style that the aroma. Mild dark roasted grains and oatmeal in the aftertaste.
Feel: full body is very smooth.
O: a solid oatmeal stout with a somewhat peculiar aroma.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle in Adelaide. Big fluffy off white head sits on top of a dark brown body for the duration. Nose is dominated by coffee, vanilla and roasted malts. A hint of liquorice. Taste is all coffee and roasted malts. A hint of chocolate and liquorice. Pretty spot on when it comes to the style it's just a little borking and one dimensional to be honest

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown, near black color. Some ruby highlights. Light brown collar or film. Some ABV legs.
Nose is sweet chocolate, sweet rolled oats, caramel, and notes of coffee. Oats were bigger in the tap version of this. Coffee is a bit muted
Taste is of chocolate, caramel, oats and coffee. Coffee is bigger in the taste and the sweet oats are also bigger and bolder. Touches of maple syrup.
Medium bodied and a bit over carbonated. Decent bitter coffee finish with a smooth melted caramel and oat finish. Some touches of vanilla and licorice in the mouth.
For style it is right but a bit meh. Was much better on tap.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
330mL bottle. Pours a fairly thin black with a massive half glass tanish head (not aggressively pours, quit the oppersite). Charred notes in the aroma and also in the flavour with a slight coffee plus liquorice note. That is the 4th beer from Lobethal that i have had that has been so over carbonated that i needed to leave it for 10-30mins to settle before i drank it which is not ideal. In its current state i would not recommend picking up any beer from this brewery they have a long way to go.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a 330ml bottle on 11/8/2012 (batch no. OS-014, bottles May 2012). Pours a tar colour with a small head. The aroma is primarily of roasted malt, some chocolate and a dash of caramel. The flavour is mostly a combo of dark and sweet milk chocolate, with a touch of coffee, smoke and roasted malt. Finishes quite dry. The body is medium and the carbonation a shade higher than typical for a stout. A very solid, enjoyable stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Just about spot on for a Chocolate Stout. Pour is dark, dark brown bordering on jet black with tan head. Aroma is faint chocolate and initial tasting is silky smooth malts with a mild finish. The bottle I have has some age on it so there is no graininess on the finish. A nice reward for forgetting about it!
It is the kind of beer that as you sip, type and rate, you just want to nudge the ratings a few points higher.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle 330ml. Exceptional beer. Aromas of milk chocolate, coffee, and liquorice. Taste is sweet, with a long-lasting bitter finish. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Black, with a frothy off-white head. Great.
