1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Very deep brown in color. Funky off-sweet aroma. Dark, muddy malt flavor, with a strange sweetness in the finish. Very bitter chocolate and caramunich flavor. I’ve still never met a czech dark I liked. Way too sweet in the finish, so much that it makes my teeth hurt.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Deep deep ruby brown under a small medium lasting medium beige head. Faint roast malt, cola and coffee aroma when cold and sweeter sticky malt when warmer. Medium thin body. Palate is kinda weak and nondescript. Medium roasted malt with minimal hop bitter flavours. Weak sweet malty finish and aftertaste. I’m still looking for the hint of chocolate. Not as good as the Prince in my book.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2003 Big Saaz nose and flavor which works wonderfully with the light chocolate malt flavors. The palate is like silk. Rather impressed with this one.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This was surprisingly good. I wasn’t expecting much from this at all. I had this at the 2002 World Beer Festival in Durham, N.C. I had only a small sample but it was malty with a slight coffee-ish taste. Dark brown to black in color. If you can get this, definitely try it!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Beautiful clear red-amber hue glows in the light like campfire embers...medium light-tan head with good honeycombed lace. Pleasant light sweet maltiness dominates flavor, supported by some roastier malts and delicate hopping that leaves mild traces behind in the finish as well. Carbonation is also suitably light. Body is also light, and given the sweet flavor-bias of this lager, is totally appropriate. This is quite an enjoyable offering--not terribly complex, but a nice change-of-pace...well worth a try.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Lovely red amber hue with a head that is a bit too thick at first, but settles into a pleasing foam-fluff. Barley and malt smells waft from this brew which has a bavarian malt-barley flavor as well with the possible addition of oats. A smooth metallic overtone is well integrated. A fine dark lager, one that probably serves better to complement food than to stand alone.
