American Muscle – 666 Horsepower Double Pale Ale is massive hop bomb brewed for America by Americans in America. Aggressively late kettle and dry hopped with four quintessential varietals of American hops; this beer is built like houses used to be. A strong malt backbone balances a rich, pungent palate of citrus fruit with floral and earthy notes. No adjuncts or extracts of any type were used in this beer.

(draft @ Local Option - Chicago, IL) Cloudy orange color with a creamy white head. Huge malt and citrus aroma with a lot of floral hops under that. Flavor is the same. Big malt bomb with lots of juicy citrus and hops and a light bitterness at the end.

"This big, sticky octuple iPa is more akin to the likes of 120 minute than the usual double ipa. Strong, thick, and sweet with tons of pine resin and some candied citrus among the malt. I enjoyed it, but wonder what some restraint would do."

draft at Blue Monk, Buffalo, NY. Agressive IIPA at 12.5%. citrusy , dank pineiness, substantial malty/toffee backbone. drank well at 12.5%. far from a malty mess at the higher abv. hops still shined

Location: Draft at Au Cheval, 6/10/14

Aroma: The nose is sweet for the style, a little booze, and a fair amount of resin/citrus hops
Appearance: The pour of this beer is cloudy and amber in color with a beige head on it
Flavor: The taste is much the same, sweet and a little bitter, with mild booze, and decent hops
Palate: A medium-plus body, with an average carbonation, some light heat, and a decent dryness
Overall Impression: I expected the booze to make more of an impact on this one considering the ABV. Otherwise, this one works pretty well. A tasty beer for sure.

On tap at brewery. Darker coppery/red colour. Huge aroma of fresh hops, pinecones and some resin but backed by a malts and biscuit. More of the same on the palate, with a hot finish that lingers well enough. Huge and tasty brew.

Tasted on tap at Chicago Diner. It poured a cloudy amber with a thin head. Had a sweet, fruity hopped aroma and a strong, yet sweet well hopped taste. This one is delicious, goes down easy, and packs a wallop with12.5% ABV.

My 168 fight night beer. Very different for a DIPA. The malt make up is what really seems to take this beer away from it’s counterparts. I mean the hops are in your face citrus and grapefruit, but the malt profile is something else.

Draft thanks to AndyReynolds - at first I thought this was a barleywine but my nose lied. Grapefruit, a strong malty backbone and soopa bitter. Reminds me of the BA southern tier unearthly. Damned good (oxymoron #1 for the year).

Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Almost entirely hazy orange amber red color. Little off-white head. Couple dots and bits of lace. Bigger, kind of slick body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Alcohol works better here than in other 12-13% DIPAs. No bite, burn, or onion - just a light pleasant alcohol warmth. Moderate sweetness. A lot of fleshy, bruised dark orange and citrus fruity hop flavors. Caramel malt, light burnt sugars. Toffee. Malty, but tasty. Alcohol is impressively well-hidden. Bigger body. A little sweet, but that’s it. Solid, big stuff.
