COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At the peak of summer 1631 King Gustavus Adolphus led thousands of Swedish troops into Northern Germany. Following the destruction and subsequent plundering of Brandenburg Adolphus’ army marched through the endless wheat fields en route to Bavaria. Brewed with copious amounts of red wheat, Blood ov the Kings is aromatically driven by bread, biscuit and notes of exotic fruit. Hazy and medium bodied the beer has a rich and creamy mouth feel with a dry, bitter, and slightly sweet finish. Unbound by the Reinheitsgebot Blood ov the Kings would certainly have been the vital fluid of victory for the Swedish monarch as he spilled blood across the wheat fields of Northern Europe.

Deep super hazy and colloidal ruby tinted copper coloured body with a muddy brown glow and a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, light spices, hay, grass, herbs, light hops and some caramel - interesting and strong. Light to Medium-bodied; Oddly astringent and medicinal at first with a thinnish malty flavour and a light bitterness that lingers with some fruits and alcohol. Aftertaste shows some hop bitterness, a touch of caramel and a thin dry oak flavour that persists throughout. Overall, an interesting beer that shows on a few different levels, but i’m not sure it really counts as complexity. Neat to try, but didn’t work out so great in hindsight. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods (Bowery) in New York, New York on 01-November-2013 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 22-July-2014.

Dosc przedziwne piwo, szokujaca etykieta, skojarzenia tego piwa i butelki jakby bylo za skandynawii. Niewielka piana ale ciemno bursztynowy kolor silnie metny i bardzo brudny ponury efekt to daje. Piwo koloru ciemno bursztynowego.

Pours a cloudy amber-red, some sediment present, with a fairly thick khaki head that settles slowly and leaves some soapy, spotty lace. Nose involves overripe fruit (peaches, apricots), savory spice pushing toward meatiness, some lemony and grassy notes, some caramel, and some fairly prevalent sourdough. Fairly sweet, quite bitter, a bit tart. Medium-full bodied, fair action, a bit oily, with a drying grainy and tart finish. Guessing this is fairly old, and age has not treated it well. It’s ok, and drinkable, but disjointed.

Draft at bistro on bridge. Pours clear copper with a small white head. The aroma is fairly floral, not complex. The taste is on the sweet side. A bit caramel, a bit grassy. Not great.

Had a few pints of this fine ale at Green Street Smoked Meats. Sampled several of their offerings and landed on this one and stuck with it. Aroma/Appearance: Big hops, citrus, exotic fruits, pineapple, mango, slightly grassy as well. Big grain qualities as well, rich wheat and barley. As far as unfiltered wheat ales go this has a wonderful shade of red (appropriate for the name), slightly hazy, still pretty clear compared to other American style wheat ales. T: Lots of citrus, slightly grassy, lots of grain qualities, no surprises, though almost rye characteristics become apparent (most likely from red wheat). Interesting. P: Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, really drinkable. O: Awesome balanced "sessionable" hoppy wheat ale. Would drink this all day and will try to find it in stores. Much better than all these "hoppy session" ales that just taste like hopcocktails and have no malt presence.

Pours a murky orange/amber with large amount of sediment. Topped with a large rocky tanish head with long retention. Tons of sticky lacing present on glass. Aroma of grapefruit, grass, caramel, bready.Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, wheat, graham cracker, floral, grass, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Average carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden. Overall this is a very good hoppy wheat ale. All around good balance and f citrus hop and caramel/bready malt flavors.
