COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Style: Dampfbier

Local Option Dampf Loc is an all-barley warm fermented ale brewed by the folks from Chicago’s Local Option; inspired by “Dampfbier” originally crafted by medieval peasant inhabitants of the Bavarian Forest. During the fermentation process generous amounts of foam and surface bubbles burst in the tank, giving the illusion that the ferment is boiling or “steaming.” Tony Russomanno and Noah Hopkins took it upon themselves to brew Dampf Loc as a modern interpretation of its Teutonic predecessor, creating a “Hefe Gerste” ale that is true to its roots; unmistakable in character yet accessible to beer drinkers of all palates.

Dampf Loc has a mild hop profile, medium body with pleasant effervescence and a clear, rich, orange hue. Dampf Loc is ideal for warm months, yet enjoyable year round.

Cuerpo ligero tornando a medio segun coge temperatura. No esta mal, refrescante en general.

@ Vino Bellissimo / Lima OH --- Clear medium amber color with a bubbly 1" head that stays awhile, a sheet of lace extending 2" above the drink. Taste seems more a sour ale than an Ale. There is malt to begins things, followed by toast and cut hay. It gives way to sour bittering in the finish. There are hops, no doubt, but the sour is present, too. Decent brew.

Hype doesn’t mean decent brew. Very bland. $3.99 on sale. Obtuse label looks exotic.

Tasted at Green Street Smoked Meats during trip to Chicago. Wonderful rich barley nose, slight notes of banana and clove from Weisse yeast. Helpful bartender said this is a rare and lost style from germany called ’dampfbier’. Super drinkable and happy to see this lost style gaining attention in America.

Bottle shared by czar, thanks! Pours a dark golden with a medium white head and good lacing. Aroma is fruity and also offers dried grass and grain husk impressions. Taste is malty with again the same grain husk flavors along some sweet cereals and light spices. Body is kind of light, mouthfeel slick. Nice and fun to try, not sure I would come back to it though.

pours slightly hazy yet bright golden orange with a small frothy off-whtie head leaving nice lacing patterns. crisp lightly toasted fruity maltiness -oranges and some yellow fruits, fresh cereals, quite spicy, slightly earthy, dusty, mineral touch - mostly chalk, grain husks (!). average to moderate carbonation, light body, very dry and crisp grassy-earthy-peppery-spicy finish. nice one!

clear orange, smooth fluffy offwhite head. faint exotic fruity, yeasty and malty flavor, flavor is malty, caramelly, sort of euro hoppy, the malts are in front, the caramel is not in the way, nice beer, but not to my taste, however easy drinking and with no flaws.
