Bottle… Mostly clear amber ale with an orange tint and a huge, frothy, white head. Good retention. The aroma is a heart-warming swirl of yeasty dough, dark bread and chocolate cake batter. Medium to full-bodied and creamy with busy carbonation. Even at room temperature, the flavor tilts toward the bitter side of balance. Lots of yeasty, doughy breadiness with an undercurrent of caramel. Finishes crisp, bready and lightly bitter. Kudos to KickInChalice for providing this unique style of beer!

500ml bottle from Binny’s Downtown. Pours a cloudy, orange-amber-gold-brown colored body with a finger-width, dense and frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is crisp bread and toast with a nice floral hopping. Some wheat, citrus, grass, and grains. Flavor is similar. Grainy and toasty up front with crisp wheat bread and a nice hopping. Floral citruses and grass with a touch of caramel. Finishes pretty dry with a nice toast and good amount of grassy citruses that give this a light bitterness before leaving a fairly lengthy aftertaste. Light-medium body and a fairly active, soft carbonation. Overall, an interesting beer. Grainy and toasty with a distinct malt backing, but a good amount of floral and grassy hops to balance. Crisp and easy drinking. Not bad.

Draft on tap at Local Option (Chicago, IL). Been waiting on this for awhile. A flagshipt they say. Pours a well hazed glowing amber hue, some fiery orange on the edges with a healthy offwhite head atop, laces ok, sticks around as a film and thicker ring. Aromas are crisp wheat, biscuits, and bread. A mellow touch of fruit, but quite malt driven due to the substitute, touches of melba toast and gentle carmelization, gentle yeasty quality, faint clove and fruit. Initial is mellow, firm medium bodied, with mellow sweetness, toast, and biscuits. Middle is mellow toast and sweet malts. Finish comes into a touch of dryness, a touch of esters that seems almost held down. A touch of banana, apple, and touches of sweetness, mellow dryness into the finish. An odd one, but enjoyable. More malt forward. Loved the aroma.

From Gene’s. Pretty decent stuff. Some malty flavor with some grassy herbal hops. A little bit of peppery-ness at the end. The missus enjoyed this quite a bit too. Serving: Bottle

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 NobleSquirrel (2677) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 23, 2011
Draft at Bad Apple. Pours a hazed gold with brown notes, sticky white head. The nose shows plasticy phenols, vanilla and cocoa. The phenol fades away. The yeast is really restrained, really just expressing the vanilla ester. On tasting, it’s kind of bland. Lots of grassy hops on the palate that really detract overall. Lot of light caramel notes & vanilla. Again, really lacks the yeast character I’d expect. What were they thinking? This is not a true Dampfbier, just a marketing gimmick...
