COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Central Waters / Local Option La Petite Mort Style: Hybrid Ale Brewed at: Central Waters Brewing Co. Amherst, Wisconsin ABV: 9.05% Suggested Serving Size: .33L weiss glass Serving Temperature: 50oF Web: http://www.localoptionbier.com http://www.centralwaters.com/ La Petite Mort is a Belgian inspired Weissenbock brewed as a one off collaboration between The Local Option and Central Waters Brewery in Amherst, Wisconsin. A bourbon barrel aged version of La Petite Mort will be available in spring 2012. When Central Waters decided to open its brew house for its first collaboration beer, Chicago’s Local Option was the obvious partner in crime. The resulting brainchild, La Petite Mort - a Belgian inspired Weissenbock – maintains the traditional characteristics of its Bavarian forbearer, with the added complexity of Belgian ale yeast. La Petite Mort is dark amber in color; maintains a rich, full-bodied mouth-feel augmented by caramel; mild and dark fruit. Rounded out by an unostentatious bourbon driven aroma from brief bourbon barrel aging, La Petite Mort is a complex ale, a marriage of distinctive styles, and an orgasmic experience for the taste buds that revel in its glory.

Draft. Had it alongside the BA version. It seemed a bit muddled for the style. And a bit weak in all flavor departments.

On tap at Local Option. Pours a cloudy amber brown with a yellowish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet grains, clove and dark fruits backed by a hint of spices. Flavor has alot of clove and spice with some backing dark fruits and grains.

On tap at the Local Option. Pours a cloudy darker brown with an inch thick, dense, frothy and creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is cocoa, wheat, banana, some caramel, and a light spicing. A touch of woody bourbon  comes in more as this warms. Flavor is similar. A really nice cocoa and banana up front with a very nice caramel and wheat malt backing. A light spicing in the middle balanced well along with nice dark fruits and a pleasant, light bourbon-wood that makes its presence known. The bourbon mixes nicely with the richer caramel and cocoa towards the end as the oak and light spicing helps dry this with a very clean malt sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty cool beer. The cocoa, banana, smooth caramels, and wheats all blend nicely with a light, but pleasant woody bourbon. Very well balanced and flavorful with a lot going on. Nicely done.

dumontn (528) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - DEC 5, 2011
On draft at Local Option. Appearance is opaque reddish brown, 1 finger of perfect wheat head. Aroma is spicy chocolate wheat, banana, cocoa. Taste is the same as the aroma but very spicy and tons of chocolate banana. body is medium, sticky, frothy, active carbonation, dry spicy cocoa banana finish. Overall, like a amped-up dunkelweizen with extra spice.
