COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local Option Morning Wood: Local Option Morning Wood is an oak-aged coffee ale developed and brewed by Local Option Bierwerker. Fresh American oak used during the aging process and Dark Matter’s Mexico Vera Cruz coffee aromatically drive the beer; while remaining subtle components of the beers’ complete flavor profile. The amber colored, medium-bodied, and extraordinarily well-balanced ale was first unveiled at the Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers in November 2011. Morning Wood’s taste is delicate and should be appreciated by beer drinkers of all palates.

Tap pours golden burnt orange with a rim of off white bubbles. The aroma is mostly coffee, sweet fruits too. The flavor starts grainy and with a hint of coffee, hits a tart sort of acidic bump and goes back to the grains with coffee lingering long term with the pale malt. Very well congealed brew, interesting and smooth.

Not my favorite form this brewery. It just seemed like caramel juice to me. I liked the hints of coffee and oak but it just came over as a super malty caramel amber.

Second beer tried at Local Option, Chicago. The bartender described this as being an "oak-aged coffee ale". Oak aged? Coffee? Ale? Um, fuck yeah! This I had to try; I’m just a sucker for anything barrel aged and brewed with coffee. Poured a hazy dirty blonde orangeade with a thin yet long-lasting white ring which rested atop. Smells of pipe smoke, papaya, pineapple, farmhouse yeast, artificial vanilla and cappuccino foam. Not nearly as fruity how it had smelt, but I’m definitely picking up coffee beans (light to medium roast), soy, wheat malt and pickled pears. Alright; not as enjoyable as I was hoping. The flavor was just too strange for me.

Tap at brewery. Fresh roasted coffee, and a little bit of smoky oak. Aroma reminds me of walking into a coffee serving bookstore. Hazy amber with a small white head. Sweet caramel malt, earthy smooth coffee - like a smooth Sumatran coffee, and light oak flavor. Medium body and carbonation.

Draft. Woody coffee and caramel malt aroma - absolutely wonderful. Hazy amber with moderate head. Sweet coffee and caramel malt with mild herbal hops flavor. Nicely blended. Delicious - love this beer.
