COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local Option Morning Wood: Local Option Morning Wood is an oak-aged coffee ale developed and brewed by Local Option Bierwerker. Fresh American oak used during the aging process and Dark Matter’s El Salvador San Jose pulp-natural coffee aromatically drive the beer; while remaining subtle components of the beers’ complete flavor profile. The amber colored, medium-bodied, and extraordinarily well-balanced ale was first unveiled at the Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers in November 2011. Morning Wood’s taste is delicate and should be appreciated by beer drinkers of all palates.

Pours a lovely amber with a large and creamy looking head that clings to the glass. Aroma of oaken barrels, malty caramel, cereal and some dried fruit. Taste is malty with notes of oak, coffee and toast. Hints of spice , honey and dates. Wonderfully complex and well balanced. Medium body. Dry finish with lively co2.

Poured from a 500 mL bottle into a tulip -- Purchased from The Beer Temple Store. Aroma is a delicate coffee mixed with caramel and the faintest hint of chocolate. Looks like a cloudy, almost muddy amber/copper with some white foam that for the most part disappears with the exception of some stubborn glass-clingers. Taste is a very creamy roasty coffee flavor, notes of dark chocolate and delicate sweetness. The taste improves greatly as it warms up. Overall, was disappointed at first sip straight out of the fridge, but as it as warmed up I’m becoming more and more fond of the delicate mixture and balance this coffee amber has. Able to check this off of my ’wish list’ after being there since April 2012.

50cl bottle pours a hazy amber with some creamy, white head. Nose is nice, blonde roast coffee, very nutty, almond, gristy, cracker. Flavor has a nice cold pressed coffee character, nutty, some cheese rind, a little caramel, malt. Lightly nutty, lightly sweet finish. I really like the blend of amber beer and coffee.

Bottle. Pours a hazy medium amber color with a thinnish white head, so-so retention and lacing. Nose is malty, coffee and caramel nuttiness. Mouth is medium-full, a creamy texture, malt forward mingling with a wallop of fresh brewed coffee, caramel, toasted almonds, mild bitterness at he backend and a subtle sweetness. Would pair perfectly with a pile of back bacon and a half dozen or so maple-glazed doughnuts. I’d figure the McKenzie brothers would call this the perfect breakfast beer, eh?

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein trübes bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit geringem Schaum. Geruch leicht nach Kaffee, Holzfass, malzig. Geschmack malzig, holzig, Karamell, Kaffee, minimal alkoholisch.
