4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer pours from the bottle with a moderate head and a strong coffee nose. The color is cloudy brown with hints of orange. The first impression on tasting is of pepper, sharp on the tongue. Coffee and oak and an interesting complexity that was a new surprise with every sip. I was at first unimpressed, but it grew more interesting with every taste. This is a subtle beer, with just the right balance of hops and malts. While not my all-time favorite like the man who recommended it to me, this is an exciting beer that I can’t stop thinking about, and one I will go back to again.
