Local Option Morning Wood: Local Option Morning Wood is an oak-aged coffee ale developed and brewed by Local Option Bierwerker. Fresh American oak used during the aging process and Dark Matter’s El Salvador San Jose pulp-natural coffee aromatically drive the beer; while remaining subtle components of the beers’ complete flavor profile. The amber colored, medium-bodied, and extraordinarily well-balanced ale was first unveiled at the Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers in November 2011. Morning Wood’s taste is delicate and should be appreciated by beer drinkers of all palates.

Bottle. Pours a hazy medium amber color with a thinnish white head, so-so retention and lacing. Nose is malty, coffee and caramel nuttiness. Mouth is medium-full, a creamy texture, malt forward mingling with a wallop of fresh brewed coffee, caramel, toasted almonds, mild bitterness at he backend and a subtle sweetness. Would pair perfectly with a pile of back bacon and a half dozen or so maple-glazed doughnuts. I’d figure the McKenzie brothers would call this the perfect breakfast beer, eh?

Botella de 50 cl en el lúpulo. 27-01-2014, En el momento. Color ámbar miel algo turbio. Cuerpo medio con 7.3 vol y algo de gas, bastante espuma inicial de color blanco que desaparece rápidamente. Aromas a caramelo especias y bastante café tostado.

Bottle:   Deep orange in color, a little dirty, soft to moderate frothy white head, a little lacing.   Coffee aroma, a little sweet, something else that is hard to describe but its nice.   Its like a froo froo coffee drink.   Soft coffee up front, not as strong as the nose suggested.   Otherwise a little malty, bready.   Needs to have a bit more sweetness as on the tongue its a bit dull.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Dull coffee and somewhat sweet bready finish.   Really liked the nose, like it was going to be a sweet froo froo coffee beer, but it was too soft on the tongue.

Half liter bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Awesome to see these guys in Virginia! Pours a hazy auburn color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of coffee, raisin, toast, neutral wood, floral notes, honey, mild hops. The taste is coffee with some bitter notes, caramel malts, mild wood, mild citrus hops. Medium bodied, subtle, well balanced. Nice beer.
