Draft at Jerry’s. Amber with good, creamy, beige head / Bright nose of brown sugar, maple, and oak / Light body, thin, with bitter, coffee, finish / Somewhat weak flavors of brown sugar, dark roast coffee, and maple / Flavor doesn’t quite match the fine nose.

4 oz pour on tap at Haymarket Brewpub (Chicago, IL). Excited to finally rate this. Pours a rich deeper amber copper hue, healthy sunset glow throughout, gentle haze, with a bigger cakey beige head atop, sticks around well and laces pretty well. Aromas are gentle oak and coffee, touches of caramel and biscuity malts, gentle soap, coffee strikes more into dominance at it warms a touch more. But, a gentle yet decent aroma. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied offering a healthy dose of coffee, roasty espresso mixes with earthy grounds, touches of biscuits, gentle toast, and some vanilla creaminess. A powerful flavor up front for what I was expecting. Gentle oak chips provide some mellow vanillin, touches of spice, as the backend still has some life. Biscuits, toffee, pretzels, and just a touch of gentle dryness. A bit sweet overall, a more decadent flavor for the appearance, taste is assertive, a bit one dimensional. A nice stronger coffee beer that showcases the coffee and some kisses of oak. Nice.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 dumontn (528) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - FEB 27, 2012
Pours clear amber with off white head. Aroma is very coffee-forward with notes of biscuit, toast, and some spicy earthy hops. Taste is similar to smell, dominated by coffee but propped up by a plethora of biscuity bready malt flavors. Body is medium, low carbonation, long coffee finish. Overall, another winner from the boys at Local Option!

Tap at Paddy Longs, coffee, malt, and oak aroma. A little bitter for my liking, I’m not really a coffee guy, but still a quality beer
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pawola22 (2211) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 27, 2012
On tap at the Local Option. Pours a lightly hazed brown colored body with an inch thick, dense, frothy and creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is smooth caramel with a moderate sweetness, oak, fresh coffee, a hint of cocoa, a touch of fruit, and a light grainy bitterness. Flavor is similar. Very smooth caramel with a light cocoa up front before a nice oak, coffee, and touch of fruitiness comes in. Coffee and oak picks up a bit towards the end as this finishes very clean with a smooth brown ale maltiness, but a pleasant dryness from the oak, coffee, and light grainy bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a very smooth and soft, medium body and a light-moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty cool, solid beer. The smoothness and slight sweetness from the amber is there and the coffee and oak add a very unique element. Easy drinking, nice finish, and all-around enjoyable.
