Mourning Wood is an oak-aged coffee amber ale. Fresh American oak used during the aging process and Dark Matter’s El Salvador San Jose pulp-natural coffee aromatically drive the beer yet they remain subtle components of the beers’ overall flavor profile. This amber colored, medium-bodied, and extraordinarily well-balanced ale has a delicate taste that is appreciated by beer drinkers of all palates.

Picked this one based solely on name, but it ended up being a solid selection. Light color with strong coffee flavor.

Hazy amber red. Nose of fruity malt, nutty coffee, caramel malt, and light oak. Flavor is tangy oak and fruit malt, smokey/nutty roast coffee. Lingering toasted malt, coffee, and oak. Nicely done.

Nice coffee amber. Hazy amber brown colored. Oak and coffee on the nose. The vanilla oakiness really complements the coffee in this one. Fairly doughy, but nice flavors. Medium bodied. Nice.

7/1/15. 500mL bottle thanks to rdixon77. Amber pour with a small khaki head. Coffee on the aroma, light oak, vanilla, hints at acidity. Coffee in the flavor, mild vanilla, caramel, doughy, mild acidity. Not bad.

Pint bottle, labeled Morning Wod Oak Aged Coffee Amber, not sure where it came from, maybe Vinmonopolet Vika. Noisy, foamy beige head rapidly dissipating. Hazy apricot coloured body. Poor lacing. Modest smell of caramel and herbal hops, coffee behind. Dried fruity flavours backed by coffee, semi-dry. Prolonged ending. Foamy in the mouth. Fine bodied. Something different, not bad at all (Tromsø 14.06.2015).

Willrunforbeer sharing another bottle. Hazy Amber in color, fast dying head. Aroma is a nice level of coffee upfront with a toffee and yeast hint. The coffee come off a tad stale.

I’m not going to get going on my bottle dating rant but... I fell like 4 months ago this was a good beer. Mellow caramel and toffee base with a smooth carbonation level. The coffee is old and starting to turn mildly acidic. But I will grade on a slight curve because coffee bean can fall off fast in a brew. I hope one day I can try this fresh.
