Tasted this in the Bon Accord, Glasgow on 31st January 2014. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thick creamy pale buff head. Roast grain and drinking chocolate powder in the nose. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing throughout. Dark malts give a rich chocolate sponge base with roast barley grain with mocha coffee and liquorice. Very dry dusty hop resins give a bitter bite to the lingering aftertaste. Finish is very smooth with strong dark malt to the fore, roast grain, burnt toast, chocolate, liquorice and leather notes combine well in the mouth. This is a decent session Stout and well recommended. The pump clip reminded me of a 70’s prog rock album cover - should do well for brewery T-shirt sales!

Bottle from Hippo Beers. Black body with a medium beige head that looks like espresso crema. Light lacing. Aroma of coffee, ash and bread. Flavour of dark chocolate, orange and Twiglets. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation. A full flavoured Stout.

imdownthepub (9636) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 13, 2013
Cask conditioned at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Dark brown, almost black with cream head. There is a good bitter chocolate flavour right at the start which veers towards sweetness on the palate, there is a fruitiness, almost raspberry lingering in the background. Some liquorice. A pretty decent beer.

Pigs Ear. Opaque dark brown - black beer. Bubbly tan head. Smooth light palate, semi dry with mild carbonation. Nice rich dark chocolatey malt. Touch of lactose and a whisper of dark fruits. Light dry finish.

500ml bottle at home. Black pour, thin tan head. Kind of blackcurrant and liquorice aromas, hints of coffee and ash. Taste continues this theme, erring towards the sweet. Medium body, slightly thin texture, soft carbonation. Ends up roasted bitter. Not bad, but not great either.

Bottle at home from alesela
Everything I look for in a stout porter, dry fruity blackcurrant and earthy licorice on the nose of a handsome brown black pint with foamy tan head. Full bodied with spit on carbonation, more blackcurrant and licorice, some chocolate malt, touch of burnt toast and long dry fruity finish.
