COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special beer has been brewed in the year 2000 according to an old Russian porter recipe with brown malt, Russian kwas, hops and water from BALIK’s own source at Ebersol. It then matured during one year in old oak butts and received individual care up to its maturity. Its has been brewed and bottled in limited quantities at the brewery Locher at Appenzell. This very demanding procedure gives the BALIK BEER its noble and characteristic sherry taste and its amber colouring. But this sparkling BALIK BEER may reserve you some surprise. With 11 %vol. of alcohol, it compares much more with a wine than with traditional beer. We recommend to drink BALIK BEER cool, at a temperature of 12° C. BALIK BEER should be stored in a dark place. When stored, the quality of the beer will improve yearly and its taste will become more and more harmonious.

A hazy amber beer with a huge orange head. The aroma is primarily of alcohol, but is also spicy and has notes of oranges. The flavor is very sweet with a dry alcoholic end, where the alcohol burns a little. Somehow the body is thin - weird for such a strong beer.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of Thomas_E. Pours a cloudy, amber golden with tiny impurities. Small, rough, off-white head. Sweetish aroma of overripe fruit and alcohol. Quite full-bodied with a soft mouthfeel and a little low in carbonation. Sweetish, roasted malt accents and some overripe fruit. The finish is alcoholic with some bitternes. Nowhere close to being an Imperial Stout, as the back label claims. And actually closer to a Samichlaus-style Doppelbock than a Baltic Borter. But still quite an enjoyable beer. 281107

Bottled. Copper colour. Aroma of dough and anise. Peppery and strong, yet mild and light bodied. Gently complex with bready finish. Odd and interesting.

Nice amber color and perlage. Malt aroma; Strong Lager taste, with more than a touch of alcohol; ends with just some caramel. Ways too expensive. Not a Porter.

Bottle @ Papsø-Grand-Tasting, September 2010. Pours clear amber with a small creamy white head. Perfumey and spicy flavor with a lot of hot alcohol. Medium bodied. ES Lager . . Not Baltic Porter!

Orange-copper colour. Toasty, bready aroma - actually does have a nose reminiscent of kvas. The palate shows some excellent baked notes, but no real structure...like from malt and hops. Different stuff, and probably requires a few bottles to get a grasp one what it is they are trying to do. Thanks Bov!
