COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American ESB (extra special bitter), complex, bold and toasty in flavor. The use of specialty grains gives this ale, named after the old prison city, a brilliant mahogany color. It is "dry hopped" for a heightened aromatic finish. Hop heads rejoice!

A 12 oz. bottle from Hayduke with whom it was shared via Facebook chat. This beer poured a hazy light brown with an evenly layered tan head of small bubbles. The nose began with malt but soon was floral and pine hops. The flavor is not really a red ale which is what the name says. A pale ale is closer. The hops are center with that pine and floral. They are rather bitter but there is only a small taste of grapefruit. Caramel malt and some nice fruit compliment. This was a nice beer with just enough complexity and some nice tastes. A very nice beer from Lockdown.

Uh oh... infected bottle alert. This one was purchased at Total Wine & More in Sac. All foam in the glass, literally no liquid. A sip of liquid from the bottle turned to instant foam in my mouth with a gagging, soapy, plastic, metallic flavor. I’m sorry to have to do this, but poor quality control deserves a poor rating.

Not too bad but nothing special. It was good. I liked it overall but it was really pretty balanced but just funky as a whole.

Pours reddish brown with a decent beige head and a toffee aroma. There is a funky burnt malt flavor that is neither sweet nor bitter.
