2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BeerViking (1426) - Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, GERMANY - JUN 26, 2009
Cask/gravity at Kingston beer festival. Pale gold with no head & not a lot of condition. Malty nose with hint of butterscotch, body is well balanced and refreshing with peachy notes, malt sweetness and herby hops. Much less hop or citrus on the nose than I’d have expected.
2.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bobinlondon (1214) - Harrow, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 13, 2008
Handpulled cask at JDW Hatch End Harrow. Brilliant condition but not hoppy enough for my liking. Typical of Loddon beers.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Sigmund (4166) - Tau, NORWAY - JUN 7, 2007
Cask conditioned at The Lord Rosebery, Scarborough. Served a bit too warm. ABV was 4.2%. Pale golden colour, like a pilsener. Moderate creamy head, nice lacing. Pleasant wheaty and citrussy aroma. Moderate hoppy flavour.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DruncanVeasey (6114) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAY 6, 2007
Reading 2007. Pale yellow with a slick of white suds. Uncloudy for a Wheat beer. Lemony, citrussy hoppiness with the wheat emerging in a long, sweet finish. A refreshing and distinctly English interpretation.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MesandSim (7118) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 3, 2007
A Mes rate:
Cask at Baker Street ’Spoons. Bland aroma, lots of honey in the flavour. Reminds me of ’Lockets’ lozenges. Hoppy witha creeping dusty finish with a slight lick of malt.
2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 hughie (3994) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 1, 2007
Cask at Wetherspoons, Milton Keynes. Pale greyish gold with a thin white scum. Minimal hop aroma. Wheaty breakfast cereal taste. Not a lot else. Some bitterness, maybe.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 harrisoni (10911) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2007
Cask handpull at Pommeler’s Rest, JDW, Tower Bridge. Pale gold, slight haze, thin white head. Cardboard. Smells a bit of stale cereal. Tastes of chewing on cardboard with a bit of an English citrus golden beer behind it. I mean it’s a good beer if you got rid of the wheat.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 berkshirejohn (3643) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - APR 3, 2007
Cask conditioned at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. A golden, almost flat, pint with a ring of white head; a trace of a floury aroma; thin and watery in the mouth with biscuit and floral flavours, leading to a citric bitter finish. Overall this seemed to be a rather delicate beer, and was probably overshadowed by the ones I’d sampled earlier. So this is a good candidate for a re-rate in the future.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - AUG 3, 2006
Takeaway from Gravity Cask @ Bitter Virtue, Soton. Slightly floral brambly hop aromas conteract the usual biscuity tofeeish malt of loddon. Slightly thinner than their usual brew without the normal quaffability - perhaps down to the use of wheat? sometimes I feel this gives a false fullness which on closer examination is quite thin. That probably doesnt make any sense to me, but I think I know what I mean or do I?
