Cask: Special - JDW Spring 2013 Beer Festival
Brewed by Lodewijk Swinkels at Caledonian brewery for Wetherspoon Spring 2013 Real Ale Festival
Brewed in the style of a Belgian Dubbel, this has a reddish colour and predominant malt flavour, balanced by a wonderful, emerging hop character.

Cask @ Standing Order, Edinburgh [090413]
Reddish brown, thin white head, clear, some lacing
Aroma - I could tell this was brewed at Caledonian straight away with those characteristic cinema popcorn malts, some soft spicy notes, slightly eggy
Taste - an odd mix of those Caley malts, cinema popcorn with some soft raisin fruity malt fighting through, hint of interesting spicy raisin malts there messed up by those Caley malts
Palate - Thinnish body, smooth texture, more of the raisiny character comes through in the finish
Overall - Probably would have been better if it was brewed somewhere else...too much Caledonian flavour and aroma in here.

Nocturne (1859) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - APR 20, 2013
Cask. Dark brownish amber with a short cap of foam. Something about the aroma definitely seemed off, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Fairly heavy body with toffee, malt loaf and raisin figuring in the taste. Sadly nowhere near as good as the cask dubbel at the last fest.
