On draft at the brewpub. This is definitely a more balanced IPA than what we’re used to on the West Coast. It pours pretty dark gold with a khaki colored head. The aroma is a bit lacking with hints of spicy, piney hops and toasty malt. The flavor is rich with pine and spicy hops and hints of tropical fruit. It has a strong caramel malt backbone that distracts from the hop character a bit, but adds to the balance. If the aroma was a little stronger, I would have rated this higher. Good effort though.

17 Apr 2012, growler from the brewery. pink/orange, clear, no bubbles. resiny hops with background bitter twinge. med body and moderately fizzy. piney hops with enough malt to give it some body but not interrupt the hops flavor. slight bite but no real bitterness or alcohol flavor.

A: The beer pours amber in color with a finger of white head. S: Doesn’t really smell much like an IPA. Starts off with caramel, soap, and metal. Yum. Minimal hops to the nose and definitely some booze. I do get some mild floral hops as I really stick my nose in the glass. T: Like with the aroma, sweet malt and caramel are the primary flavors. A little bit of booze in there too, along with a mild fruit note and some grass. A bit of floral hops are the one saving grace. M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation med. O: Apparently Lodi is not a destination for IPAs.

Ungstrup (29373) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JAN 12, 2011
Draft. An amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of matl and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and hops, the latter lending it notes of citrus fruits, combined with a light note of caramel, leaidng to a lightly bitter and citrusy finish.

Lubiere (10094) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 2, 2009
An orange amber IPA with a thin off white head. A classy pinhey c-hops aroma with light biscuitty malt. In mouth, a rather nutty IPA with light c-hops, a bit of grapefruit, lightly oily mouthfeel. Medium bodied. On tap at brewpub, August 27 2009.

bhensonb (11144) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 7, 2009
Draft at the brewpub. Dark brown color with a white head. Hoppy aroma. Medium body and creamy carbonation. Flavor seems a mix of citrus and resin over light roast caramel. Finishes not quite astringent/not quite dry. Hop does build in the mouth. Ok IPA.
