Shiphead is brewed with organic Peruvian ginger straight out of the rain forest. Coriander and fresh lemon peel channel inspiration from the Belgian Wit style. A liberal dose of malted wheat and a mitt full of Vienna malt give this brew notes of bread and grain that compliment the citrus flavors well.

Sampler at the brewery. It poured a hazy blond color with a small white head. The aroma was citrusy and floral with a touch of crisp wheat. The taste was a touch sour with a nice finish, with more malt and light hops. Nice.

Sample at Boulevardia 2015. Comes a clear pale gold with an average white head. Aroma of malt, citrus, and spice. Taste is lemon, ginger, malt, and grain. A bit too much spice.

Clear copper/orange pour, with a small white head. Aroma has citrusy hops and a bit of wheat in the back ground. Flavor is a crisp and clean, some floral and citrus notes. A little bready on the tail end that leads to a nice tingly bitter finish. Very drinkable, and enough hops to satisfy my cravings.

Light and fresh. Lots of lemony citrusness, though the ginger is the most prominent taste.

Pretty good considering I can’t tolerate the gingery-ness of straight ginger beers. So the wheat ale plus ginger beer fusion is a good mix for me. Good carb, light on the tongue and fizzy in the mouth. Not bitter but not too sweet.

5.2 abv. 21 ibu. Tons of ginger. Hints of lemon and citrus. Light gold. Hazy. No head. Candy like.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2015 The appearance has a clear light yellow color with a small white head, and the aroma blends ginger and lemon. The taste is mildly sweet and mildly sour with a strong ginger presence, and the palate fuses an average carbonation, medium body, thin texture, and a tart finish.
