Colore marrone scuro con lievi riflessi ramati. Cappello di schiuma abbastanza fine, beige, abbastanza persistente. Al naso torrefatto, caffe’ e un deciso fruttato a stemperare i malti tostati. In bocca un po’ sgraziata, non particolarmente morbida, con note di caffe e lieve cioccolato. Finale secco e decisamente amaro. Lotto 2014120, bottiglia da 33 cl.

330ml bottle served in a snifter glass. Pours a black color forming a beautiful creamy and very soapy head. Excellent retention and tons of soapy lacings formed and left in the glass. Strong notes of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee beans and flowery hops in the nose. Taste follows the nose: Strong notes of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee. Some fruity phenols. Taste is dry and bitter with a persistent hops bitterness finish. Medium body. Smooth. Good carbonation. Roasted and grassy persistent aftertaste. Good drinkability. Great hops profile. Excellent dry Stout.

330 ml bottle in a bar outside Rome. Dark copper/light brown, pretty hazy with tons of bubbles streaming up and some little particles floating around, and a nice, creamy and persistent light beige head. Lots of grain and licorice on the nose, also sweet milk chocolate. A hint of herbal hops as well. Very bitter and coffee forward, quite astringent but ironically it’s refreshing. Slightly metallic aftertaste. Average to lively carbonation, light to medium body, slightly creamy texture. Just decent.

At the Hair of the Dog mini-tasting. Served in a snifter. This Italian dark beer pours a dark brown/black with a foamy beige head. The nose is malty chocolate, savory with a slightly chalky nose. The taste is roasty, chocolate, milk chocolate pretty good. Solid but not so remarkable.
