3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   23 Nov 2011 bottling.   Garnet, a bit hazy, moderate to large frothy sandy head, fairly nice lacing.   Somewhat of a citrusy/pithy start, noticeable bourbon, a bit candied and carmalized.   Seems perhaps maybe over the top as its fading fast.   Not real bright either.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Nose of oak, stale hops, a bit of caramel and pith.   It smells interesting, starts out interesting, but quickly fades and becomes very muted and dull.   Seven months past bottle date... maybe not such a good thing.   Not a bad beer at all, but appearing to be a bit over the hill.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
BREWED 02/28/11 BOTTLED 11/23/11 DRANK 2/14/12 - A deep hazy amber ale with a firm lace. To the nose it is heavy with musky vanilla with a hint of hop and cheesy yeast, something unsettling about it though it is what I would have expected. In the mouth the cheesiness is absent which is a god-send. It is lightly bitter with plenty of smooth and sweet vanilla/caramel. In body it is slick and weighty. The carbonation is mild and cask-y. All in all I think this is a solid effort. The texture and balance of this beer seem to have really benefited from its slow maturation.
