3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beardface (1509) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - AUG 13, 2010
Draught at 5th Quadrant. Couldn’t agree more with those who say that this is absolutely not a barleywine. The dominant aromas and flavors are those of grain and yeast, and it is very much lacking the complexity of a good barleywine. It’s an easy drinker and not a bad beer though, just very much mis-categorized.

Draught. Honestly, I wouldn’t call this a barley wine. Poured light brown with medium head. Sweet aroma. Sweet malty flavour on a full body, with enough bitterness to keep it from getting cloying. Lingering pleasing flavour. Almost dry enough to be a session beer. The pub called it a mild.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 boFNjackson (3580) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 20, 2010
Tap @ 5th Quadrant... Poured clear copperish/orange with a thin, bubbly, white head. Aroma of grains and a yeasty tone much like British ales. Lightly carbonated, came off a lot as an English bitter, which makes sense. Easy drinking, clean and balanced with a dab of hops. Light fruits, subtle caramel sweetness, and the finish was dominated by malted grains.

@ the brewery... A strange ale to have on nitro if you ask me, but then again i do enjoy most things that other people call strange, yellow fogged body with a big nitro head, creamy and smooth, malty and pale, hints of fruit with a slightly bitter finish
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BückDich (5467) - McCall, Idaho, USA - FEB 9, 2004
For a barleywine this has tons of head, lots of lacing. Aroma has a perfect balance of hops & malts; fig & raisin. Definitely a beautiful aroma despite the choking levels of smoke in the room. Nice fruity malt flavors, finishes warm & sweet. This barleywine is great for the style but might be a little too low of ABV to be considered one.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Murphy (1759) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - FEB 9, 2004
So this is supposed to be like the barleywine, but less I guess. Very dark mahogany color. Taste is malty and rich, although the body could be a little fuller. Kind of mild, but I guess that is appropriate for the style. Acceptable.

rated 1/27/03 Poured a light brown color, fairly clear, with a long lasting creamy white head due to the nitro tap. Very smooth from start to finish, with no hops evident at all, just a mild malty flavor. Light, creamy, and very drinkable.
